NEW: North Carolina prison officials, this summer, raised the price of items that incarcerated people can buy.

The prices are already way marked-up; & incarcerated people make a tiny fraction of minimum wage if they work.

An incarcerated reporter explains what's happening, & why it matters:

TN07 is a story about gerrymandering: the GOP cracked Nashville into 3 districts when it redrew the 2022 map, destroying the Dem seat there.

Fast-forward: a section of Nashville, which just 5 years ago had a Dem representative, is now voting Dem by huge margins but it's been designed to not matter.

The singular city of Nashville falls into THREE districts. Not Nashville and suburbs, like they do to Memphis to dilute its votes, ACTUAL LITERAL DOWNTOWN STATE CAPITOL NASHVILLE, the courthouse is in TN-7 and the capitol building is in TN-5 and the registrar is in TN-6

GOP Mayor Kurt Wilson conceded earlier tonight to Mary Robichaux, the Dem challenging him.

Kamesha Mumford will be the new senator for Mississippi Senate District 26 after a special election runoff on Tuesday. Though the special election was nonpartisan, she is expected to serve as a Democrat in the Senate.

John Horhn, who is now the mayor of Jackson, had held the seat for 32 years.

The refusal to consider DC Statehood is largely a reluctance to give DC two Senators, which itself is a tacit admission that the United States Senate is an anti-democratic institution.
Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

Civil rights lawyers successfully fought the brutal tactics deployed against Chicagoans during a recent immigration enforcement deployment. But they needed help from the community to get it done.
