Follow the money. Provincial intransigence aside, the biggest/powerful opponents are the major insurance companies. Why? If full pharmacare is in place, premiums paid by employers/benefits would drop substantially. And so would their outrageous profits. They have deep pockets for lobbying, etc.
Oh, ofc they do. 🙄

They are large language model algorithms. There’s nothing “intelligent” about them at all.

Their usage is environmentally devastating. Nothing intelligent about that either.

The intelligent thing would be to rein them in until we can manage them better for all our sakes.
It is the best. I used to sneak them out of the kids’ stash. But shush, don’t tell them! 😅

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me

Good. So very glad that the school food program will continue.
Carney on Canada's National School Food Program: "No child should go to school hungry or sit in a classroom all day wondering where their next meal will come from... Until today, this program was a pilot..so, we're announcing we'll move forward with the funding and legislation to make it permanent."

Our kids are invisible on our streets in more than one way
Uh huh.
So.
Tell me again why we’re investing federal tax dollars into AI?
Election stunt pays dearly for it years later in substantial catch up costs.
A measured approach of reasonable increases tells me whether a mayor actually understands the business of running a city or not.
*sigh *
It’s a jaded (and failed) political stunt. One of the biggest cost to cities are wages which have union-set increases for the next year. Then there’s road maintenance, supplies, etc. These costs have increased greater than CPI due to *waves hand. A city that greatly cuts services for an /2
“The second source is fine-tuning, specifically a step called reinforcement learning. When models achieve some goal … their neural networks responsible for success are fortified. Through trial and error, they learn how to succeed, sometimes in unforeseen and unwanted ways.”
Umm - what were they thinking?! 😳
“First, models are pre-trained on a lot of documents, that describe self-serving and self-preserving behaviour eg scripts for films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Ex Machina.) So the LLMs learnt by imitation…. “role play” www.nature.com/articles/d41...
AI models that lie, cheat and plot murder: how dangerous are LLMs really?
Tests of large language models reveal that they can behave in deceptive and potentially harmful ways. What does this mean for the future?
