Commissioner for ANC 4D08, Chair of ANC 4D. https://anc4d.org/
I’ve heard an increasing number of reports like this from Ward 4 neighbors — which concerns me as animals face freezing temperatures. DC Health and BVSPCA need to urgently address this situation.
There are 2 dogs who’ve been left in a car outside my house for over an hour while it’s freezing cold. They’re barking nonstop. So I called it into 311, they transferred me to animal services, who said they’d follow up during normal business hours.

Utterly useless, and now I don’t know what to do

But we can’t stop here. To keep pace with our goals, I’m proud to have introduced legislation to accelerate this critical work and create green jobs in the process.

Every year, one of my favorite traditions is handing out pencils to DCPS students on their first day of school. It was a joy to visit Truesdell Elementary this morning to cheer on our Ward 4 scholars and see their excitement ahead of starting classes.

Wishing all our students a great year ahead!

ANC 4D is deeply alarmed by the DC Auditor’s report, and it furthers our concerns that MPD’s current policies are insufficient to address and prevent police misconduct.

We call on Chief Pamela Smith to immediately adopt the recommendations outlined in the report: anc4d.org/anc-4ds-lett...

Also, if we have $$$ to completely revamp the Rock Creek Tennis Center in Ward 4 (including $3 million in FY26 for planning & design work on a pool there), surely we can find the money for a library in a Ward 4 neighborhood that so desperately needs it, literally half a mile away.

But I digress.
This deal seems to be a positive development, I have 2 major concerns about process: 1) Why isn’t the W4 CM nor impacted ANCs being notified? 2) Why does EOM keep prioritizing projects that don’t align with Ward 4’s top needs? This is great, but what about Kennedy St library we were promised?

I do not support making the pretrial provision of Secure DC permanent without having adequate data to understand the impact.

Pinto asked why we should require strenuous study before passing this bill — bc when detention and racial equity is at stake we should be certain we’re not creating harms.
The no votes came from Nadeau and Robert White, while Lewis George and McDuffie voted present. The main concerns were around whether expanded pre-trial detention has improved public safety or not, and the disproportionate impact on Black residents.

As Chair of the ANC abutting these properties, it’s beyond insulting to Ward 4 that our Councilmember @cmlewisgeorgew4.bsky.social didn’t find out about this until days before the legislative meeting. My ANC was never notified officially.
Update on this: Deputy Mayor Nina Albert told the D.C. Council today that Bowser wants to move quickly on these purchases because of a pending foreclosure sale, but also because they are next to a former D.C. fire station. The idea would be for some type of mixed-use development.
Interesting: @mayorbowser.bsky.social is asking the D.C. Council to let her buy six commercial properties on Georgia Avenue just south of Missouri Avenue NW. Her office says the properties are "currently underutilized, facing foreclosure, and are at risk of becoming blighted."

I was angry when Trump circumvented the judicial process to pardon the officers involved in the killing of #KaronHyltonBrown as political red meat for his MAGA base.

But the reinstatement of the officers to the MPD force is a betrayal to residents here in the neighborhood where he was killed.

The measles vaccine has been licensed for public use since 1963.

You can find a place to get vaccinated here: www.vaccines.gov/en/
Nearly 100 people across Texas and New Mexico have contracted measles, state officials say, escalating anxiety over the spread of a potentially life-threatening illness that was declared eliminated in the United States more than two decades ago.
Measles, once eliminated in the U.S., sickens 99 in Texas and New Mexico
Health authorities warned of further spread. Most U.S. measles cases this year involved people 19 and under and those without a confirmed vaccination.
