One way sighted people can determine what to put in alt text: Imagine you sent the post or article to a friend, and the image didn't load. What would someone need to know to get the equivalent experience and context? This will help you identify the important details.

Color contrast affects readability on the web and in print. It is especially important for users who are low vision or for users who are colorblind. Good color contrast means all users can see your content no matter the device they’re using or the lighting of their surroundings.
That was me yesterday. I knew I should have set an alarm to remind of something and of course, I didn't.

Yes! And they also keep pet hair off things between cleanings. And sometimes even keep the pets out of the things.
(Except my jerk boy Barney. He's such a %)(#&%)(%. He has ZERO 'you-know-whats'. None. Not one.)

#freelanceFriends
Agreed. And welcome! So glad you made it. #FreelanceFriends is better when we have a Shane sighting!

Cheers to the old houses. They take 30% more money to fix and 30% more time, but I wouldn't change it for anything. We love this place. Or most of it... most of the time. 😁

I'm keeping my options open but higher ed is a real sh##show at the moment. And you're so right about the lack of stipends for PhD students. Even at a public uni, those programs are stupid expensive without stipends or employer-assistance.

Friends Helping Friends: Don't lose the discipline or skills for editing and proofreading your own work. The AI-based tools have their place but, I find, are increasingly unreliable for proofreading -- and the suggestions are becoming "what-the??" caliber.

@sandyhubbard.bsky.social - I may resemble your hubby more than I should admit. We have an armoire that we can close the doors and things are magically cleaned up. Wish the rest of the spaces were as magical. Blessings to the one who invented doors.

Not getting my PhD is going to be a regret for me. I know - never say never. Yet the world of academia is changing in ways I don't like. Maybe it's just this timeline but I hope education regains the status and import it had before *all-the-things*

100%. And the money spent is worth having a trusted someone take care of things we're not good at. It doesn't take much of a tax penalty (and shenanigans that come with it) to make a financial professional worthwhile.

Same. And it took me a while to get out of the "after midnight" routine I had made - quiet music, string lights, quiet outside noises if the windows were open. I had to make a whole new "daytime" ritual/routine after graduation. I miss it though. Did some really great work then. #FreelanceFriends
I love my blue-light glasses except when I'm working on color design. (Photo editing or graphics creation, etc...) They mess with the color balance and things don't come out like I want them too. So the pile of readers gets even bigger.

Yes! Finances. Intentions. Progress. What's working. What's not. Taking the time to step away and spend some quiet time reviewing where you/your biz are and where you want to be can be really helpful.

Listen to your gut. Learn to say NO to red flag situations. Know the difference between excited caution vs red flag.
You can avoid so much heartache and BS just by being careful with what you say "yes" to.

(Also - someone please remind of this on a semi-regular basis.)

Q3: Whether you've just started freelancing, or have been doing it for years, a GREAT habit is treating it as a business. It's not a hobby. What do you do to keep things professional both in the eyes of your clients and for your mental wellness?

#FreelanceFriends
a2) I'm a huge fan of taking time to review plans. I have a MMR or mid month review and a MQR - mid quarter review. Nothing really special, but a purposeful time for good coffee/snack and check-in for how things are going. Too busy and things can go off the rails fast.

Q2: What business habits do you have in place that help you feel accomplished, productive or successful? This is the place to chat about business routines, strategies or habits that really work for you!

Good luck!! Let us know how it goes. And of course - HIII SaADDDIEEE!!! #GoodGirl

We can all agree that the other team can remain nameless. In fact, the less said - the better! 😁 #GoSox #DirtyWater

This! It is amazing what you can do by just chipping away in little chunks on a regular basis. It's the consistency that makes things happen.

After years of having split focus (school and freelancing), I usually have a kind of "start-up" routine or ritual to get in the proper headspace. Certain music. Usually a certain place. Making it a purposeful transition from whatever to I'm doing "this" now. #freelanceFriends
Let's get started! Q1: What life habits do you have in place that, in turn, allow you to show up as your best business self each day when you're working? Think about daily personal routines. (We will chat about business habits next!)

Savory and Marjoram are also great for soups. Adds some depth without overpowering the other ingredients.

It would probably work. I mean, the one thing we can agree on is "Yankees Suck". #FreelanceFriends
