Today would have been Gwen’s birthday. She was stolen from us by MBC.
One year ago, on a sunny afternoon before the last session of #SABCS23, I stood on this balcony chatting with patient and advocate Gwen Manchion, who was stolen by MBC in the interim. This is why we do what we do.

Such a great way to put it! I did a few decades as a trial attorney and had too many medical malpractice cases to think any doctor gets it right all the time. I’m up to 42 medical mistakes that I have caught in the 8 years I’ve been living with MBC. We all do our best.
That’s probably the best place to start and then a genetic counselor will be your guide if there are results you need to address.

I don’t trust any medical provider absolutely and regularly get second opinions to obtain different pieces of the puzzle so I can make the best decision. Oncology isn’t black and white and there are many gray areas. No one has all the answers.
Have you had genetic testing to see if there is a genetic mutation in your family?

This and the funding cuts for cancer research could literally kill me.

I can't even describe what that feels like. 😟

The Republican shutdown means clinical trials will stop enrolling new patients for life-saving treatment.

But, hey, at least construction on Donald Trump's golden ballroom for his billionaire buddies will continue.

I’m excited and honored to say I will be joining the Judy Nicholson Kidney Cancer Foundation Board of Directors in 2026.

I could never imagine when I was first diagnosed that I would dive headfirst into cancer advocacy. But here we are.
It IS a ridiculous policy and insurance companies take advantage.
I’m on the fence as to whether this would actually help. It seems to be adding unnecessary red tape to me but I’m also not a fan of fail first or step therapy generally. Why should anyone have to suffer through meds that won’t help when there is something that can?
Such a fascinating article.
