This is something I've been telling myself lately with the DMs Guild projects that I make. I don't make money, but I love doing it. I have fun and I love them with the world. I'm about to hit my 50th DMs Guild project (I have 2 more to go and I have an idea of what they'll be).
did you enjoy creating it? did you have fun? does it make you happy thinking about it and sharing it? then that's it. you did it. you found the secret sauce. "was that a waste of time?" of course not, fuckface. expressing yourself creatively is always worthwhile. you're doing great

Don't normally hold grudges, but I'm still seething about a local business using Gen AI for one of their posters, then the dude posting a "I don't understand what the big deal is" regarding using AI. They do great a great service for cats. On the other, they could've worked with an artist.
