My weather app says there's cloud cover, but I guess it's not complete. This is the view from my back deck, just holding the phone out away from the house a bit. (Can I also say that night mode on my iPhone is pretty amazing.)

Oh hey, a reason to be hopeful: groves of American chestnut trees have once again become self-reproducing in the wild.

Turned off comments so 12 people don't show up to tell me why this is actually very sad. Be happy, you assholes.
Nearly a Century Ago, American Chestnut Trees Died Off. Now, Hikers Can Walk Among Them Again.
Efforts to restore the American chestnut comprise "one of the most epic conservation stories ever told.”

Just got a real jump scare, as CT sent out an Amber Alert as a Public Safety Alert, bypassing my iPhone settings not to allow notifications for Amber Alerts (I double checked the settings, since updates sometimes change settings).

So, registering for protests? I've been following the discourse, and the vitriol directed at folks (mostly Black) who explain why it's a bad idea…when the pace of protest rallies picked up, in my (very blue) state, a lot of them wanted to trade info about location for my contact details. (1/

Hey, @snytv.bsky.social, if those things in the CItiField batters eye have been there forever, let's see some footage from earlier this season.

This one seems relevant to an awful lot of The Discourse today.

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

I regularly spin during Zoom calls with friends. Here's where I got up to last night. This is c. 43g of a merino/soy silk blend that I picked up at a Nutmeg Spinning Guild auction. 🧶

I can't eat enough veggies for even a half-share CSA to be worth it for me. Fortunately, my favorite farm/farmstand offers a cut flower share, and I picked up the first bunch this afternoon.

This is absolutely fascinating!
Lou Gehrig called himself ‘the luckiest man on the face of the earth’ on this date in 1939.

We know Wally Pipp preceded the Iron Horse.

Who followed Gehrig? Well, his story will blow you away

Avelo is running deportation flights from Mesa, AZ, even though they have a major hub in New Haven, and are expanding service. They've recently announced cheap non-stops to O'Hare, apparently subsidized by the deportation flights.
Made some calls. Expect to sign a contract tomorrow. Initial focus is New Haven as that's the largest operation for the carrier by a factor of 4x.

Here. We. Go!

The sound keeps cutting out on the ESPN broadcast of the #VGK #Wild game. It's very disconcerting. It's definitely the game production; commercials are fine.

My most recent yarn, a cable-plied BFL, possibly superwash, dyed by Spunky Eclectic. I spun the singles on a c. 20g spindle made by @brewergnome.bsky.social and plied (both plying passes!) on a larger spindle made by @akerworks.bsky.social. The second (cable) plying pass was a bit of a challenge.

Contemplating posting a picture of yarn I spun and that I'm proud of, and then I look at the skyline and realize how frivolous it would be. Or maybe I should post it? I honestly don't know.

I finally got around to washing my most recent FOs, two pairs of socks, from yarn I spun myself, with a spindle. The yarn for both is two ply, with low singles twist and high plying twist. 🧶 #knitting #fiberarts #socks
