The "immigrants using taxis and hotels" bullshit is driving me insane - everything about the press and political framing is an absolute lie.

Asylum seekers are only staying in hotels and using taxis because we're apparently incapable of processing applications and providing nearby healthcare!

Here's an idea: what if we "concentrated" the refugee population into certain locations? "Camps" if you will. We could force them to work for free too. I wonder if there's a name for this sort of thing?
Well the optics of this are certainly something

Radio 6 is a tribute to all that is best at the BBC. It is inform, educate and entertain in musical form: Utter loveliness. And then they periodically allow the news department to mutilate it with these context-free anti-asylum bulletins, reminding you of all that's worst about the BBC.
Radcliffe and Maconie on BBC 6 music is one of my favourite things

Having it interrupted by breathless news bulletin telling me ‘government has banned taxis for asylum seekers’ *really isn’t*

New lines like ‘Home Office spent £1k over weekend on taxis’ would struggle to make a local newspaper

So, my home town is having a meltdown on social media because a 50 year old brick and concrete bus shelter is being taken down to make way for a modern replacement.

Facebook posts commenced. Several a day on the Community pages.

An online petition was started.

And now... This.

When legacy media behaves like this, is it any wonder people dismiss the ‘MSM’ and rely instead on social media and its brain rot algorithms?
The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

70% of the additional spending from removing the two-child limit will go to families who are in work. This is targeting support for low-income working households who are being priced out of a decent standard of living despite doing everything asked of them.

The thing about "left on the economy, right on culture" is it's based on analysis of swing voters. Those voters are often low attention and their politics are often not especially coherent. Which is fine for them, it's not their job to run the country, but, you know, the government is

There is some good stuff in this budget. I don’t think it would have been there without serious opposition from normal people, and Labour backbenchers to the most egregious shite of the past year from govt, meaning 2 things:
1. We can and do have influence still
2. We have to keep fighting

And this thing got so weirdly defensive about "those are rumors, none of that is true". I had to send 3 article links for it to pivot to "ahh haha my bad yeah ok that happened"

I’d not really heard the “benefits street” thing until yesterday but it’s a very useful image isn’t it, as it allows bigots to imagine welfare recipients as “them over THERE” rather than their neighbours who might need income top ups just to pay bills, disability support or money between jobs
every right-wing newspaper this morning:

those Benefits Street kids are worthless scum who should never have been born...

...unless a muslim raped them in which case the police ignored it because of political correctness no other possible reason

Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting.

Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth?

For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today

What can you do in the face of relentless bad journalism that convinces the majority of people that the opposite of reality is true? It’s exhausting
New net migration figures at 930am.

Net migration fell half a million to 344,000 in 2024 from 848k in 2023

56% of people think it went up last year
17% think stayed the same
14% think it went down

2025 figure to be lower again
16% expect that
38% think it will be up
31% about the same

Whatever else this government do (and there's plenty of issues with this budget) ministers will always be able to point to this as an incredible important contribution to the country's future. Almost half a million kids taken out of poverty.
Scrapping the two-child limit in full is a monumental decision. Well done to all involved in the Child Poverty Strategy, and everyone who has made the case against the policy.

OBR says scrapping costs £3 billion in 2029-30 and will lift 450,000 out of poverty
