I'm just doing this.
Me, yesterday, during a test review: "Who can tell me what composition means in photography?"

Student: "Can I go to the bathroom?"

Me: "Yes, but that's not composition. (beat) It's more like decomposition."

Today I had my student news anchors adopt pseudonyms (that was our word of the day) for the morning announcements. One of them was called "Goodnews McCoy" and the other was "Funk Dubious," the latter of which is a callback to something my brother did in high school. So that's how my day started.

i am not a christian but i have no idea why there isn't some big panic about a guy called "mr. beast" amassing tremendous amounts of fame and influence by literally getting people to do dangerous and degrading things

And I have a tenor. You know, it's a humbling and fulfilling experience to ask people to perform something you wrote and have them take it just as seriously as any other piece of music.
Need fulfilled (tentatively). But I lost a tenor, so now I need one of those.

I showed my kids how Brussels sprouts grow today and we decided they should be called "cabbage berries." So today we're making roasted cabbage berries for Thanksgiving.

This reminds me of a car commercial from like 15-20 years ago. It said, "If everyone settled for 'good enough,' would anything ever be good enough?"

I don't know how good the cars in question were, but the quote seems relevant.
On AI’s ‘mediocrity trap’ — experiments indicates that while AI helps the less skilled make something passable, the highly skilled don’t use it to produce something better than they could have; they produce something ok, but lose motivation to make it great. www.jin-li.org/uploads/1/1/...

Had a day this week that started at 5 am and ended at 9 the next day. Then four hours of sleep later, started again. This week, in addition to teaching full time, I've had four performances of a musical, an overnight film shoot, a recording session, and two short video shoots. Busy week.

Here's your chance to do something about the people being starved and beaten in Broadview ICE custody.

Share this post, and I'll donate $1 to the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund (www.mibfc.org).

And if you make a donation to them, let me know how much and I'll match it 1:1.

My local food bank used to send thank-you cards to donors. One day I wrote them saying "I appreciate it, but please use my donations for food, not greeting cards." Shortly thereafter they added a box on their donation form where you could opt in to thank-you cards.
Remember that while food banks welcome donations of food, they prefer $$$$$$$. They have deals with grocery stores and suppliers. You can only buy one dollar's worth of food for one dollar, but they can buy several dollars' worth. So don't, like, buy food to donate it, just give 'em the dough.

Not fun fact according to the American Federation of Teachers: As of 2020, 25% of adjunct professors were eligible for public assistance. I had colleagues who used food stamps.

Poverty doesn’t always look like what you’d expect, and none of us are guaranteed a life without un- or under-employment.

Started reading Redwall to my kids. Most of those who are listening seem to be liking it. This was one of the first books I fell in love with as preteen.

Today, on an article about autism, I read a comment saying, non satirically, "thank goodness we have a HHS secretary dedicated to getting to the bottom of these issues affecting our children" or something like that, to approving responses. That was when another little part of me died.
I spend all this time trying to figure out what the master plan is, and it always hits me: nothing. Just conspiracy brain worms all the way down. And the most smug self-righteousness as Kennedy and cronies destroy over a century of concerted scientific effort and hard work.

If this happens, it will be a stain on the state and further proof of Utah's leadership's complicity with evil. Shame on us.

What's a movie that invades your thoughts far more often than it has any reason or right to? For me, it's Demolition Man.

Love it how all the electronic signs on the train just shut off after the second to last station. It's like, nothing can change your destination now, so why bother knowing?
