The book for November is The Round House by Louise Erdrich! I'll make a more official announcement on Monday since weekend posts have really low engagement, but feel free to get started!

Today is the last day to vote on a book for #blueskybookclub!

Currently in the lead:

The Round House, set on a Ojibwe reservation, follows the story of a 13-year-old boy who is frustrated with the poor investigation into his mother's gruesome attack and sets out to find the attacker.

The Round House by Louise Erdrich:
Putting in my suggestion for The Round House because I’d love to read more work by Louise Erdrich.

My favorite gadget as a writer is my Sony TX660 voice recorder.

I love that its one job is just that. No notifications. No updating or rating an app. Just press record and go.

I take it with my everywhere and can ramble on and pause for as long as I want. Transcription later. #writesky #authorsky

A fictional writing tip I keep coming back to: CONTRAST.

Contrast is what makes a story interesting.

For example, I had two characters in my story that got along really well going on their journey together. Something fell off until I realized if they get along so well and agree about everything...

What do you think of this story premises for a short twilight zone fan fic episode?

Would you be down for this quick read it if I wrote it?

One of the hard parts of writing a novel is listening when there's the tiniest feeling that a scene, character, etc just doesn't feel right and pushing back on the desire to move on because I already wrote so much of the story.

Not sure if anyone else writes like me but my novel has a lot of organized complexity. It needs to be effortless for the reader to follow while maintainable for me to keep everything straight, especially when jumping forwards/backwards in segments of the novel. #authorksy #booksky #amwriting

20% into Blood Meridian by Cormack McCarthy. Do not read if the slightest bit thirsty and away from water. Lots of depictions of people desperately seeking water in the desert. #booksky

The most common error I see as a book editor is incorrectly punctuated dialogue.

NO: “Nice to meet you.” She said.
YES: “Nice to meet you,” she said.

NO: “Likewise.” The editor said.
YES: “Likewise,” the editor said.

NO: She smiled, “Hi."
YES: She smiled. “Hi.”

Repost to save a life 😂
