As promised we’ll highlight each of our Community Soapbox guests separately this week, starting with @mellymaeh.de.

She’s an activist, speaker, and author focused on accessibility, inclusion, and of course gaming where mobility is her biggest barrier.

In Germany yesterday I saw a mobile provider was including CheatGPT plus for free in mobile plans. Yet another example of desperate market manipulation by forcing it on users to artificially inflate user numbers.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

I found Lego's little bag of Braille Bricks in Germany today.

For just €4 I obviously couldn't not buy one.

Over 4 and a half years after it got kickstarted, almost 2 years after choosing a die, and still nothing to show from Pixels.

Sitting on stock because the US is messing with tariffs, as if the rest of the world doesn't exist. And now my choice *might* be swapped to another type at their discretion.

Really excited for this and the first four interviews are all incredibly informative and approachable.

I can see this series being a great way to introduce someone to accessibility in games through the stories and experiences of players with lived experience. Thank you to all the contributors ☺️

This is the start of a series that I feel very strongly about. As a platform with reach where it counts, I feel we have a responsibility to use that to share different perspectives.

Not just from different accessiblity needs (although important), but also from different countries and backgrounds.

That's not what accessible means. He's talking about approachability, which may have overlap with accessibility but is a very different thing.

I finished this game and enjoyed it, but sadly lacking in some areas of accessibility for me.

This review mentions the lack of quest markers and map - both things that greatly support my memory and cognition. It also flared up my pain in my hands from a lot of movement and taps/holds…

Some are suggesting you deliberately write inaccurate or confusing alt text, because they say this confuses AI scrapers that are analyzing images.

The purpose of alt text is to help people who cannot see the image. Deliberately misrepresenting the image is a gross misuse of alt text. Don't do it.

The Plants vs Zombies: RePlanted team has been working hard on making this version stand out from the original, and one of those aspects is adding new accessibility features! Kudos to The Lost Pixels team, thrilled to see their advocacy and efforts pay off!
Update 1.4.0 for Plants vs. Zombies Replanted adds a high contrast mode to the game, as well as game speed options which can lower or increase the game's speed.

Other accessibility improvements include a screenshake toggle and a Sun Vacuum feature.

We did something different with the credits for Demonschool. We used this format: name, title, lengthy description of what they did. Often you see credits in games where you don't know what the credited developer was actually responsible for. We wanted to give people proper, actual credit.

We need your help to raise $200,000 to make play accessible. With over a month to go, you’ve already helped us raise over $78,000. $5 covers cost of parts, while a donation of $60 can cover the cost of a toy and switch for a child with a disability. #HackingForTheHolidays

If your setting screen requires scrolling and/or is across several tabs consider adding search to it!
