Trump is “creating a media monopoly in order to keep himself in power...the larger pattern, not just TikTok...we have seen countless media companies like the coming under control of right-wing oligarchs. We have seen constant pressure on the press, new rules from the Pentagon...”

In A Glass of Blessings (1958) Barbara Pym says the post arrived 2-3 times a day in the run-up to Xmas. Which reminds us that technical regress is a thing: enshittification isn't just for the internet. Here's one I wrote earlier: chrisdillow.substack.com/p/technical-...

One mistake Labour made in their first year is loading quite a few new costs onto business all at once. They are risking doing something similar on immigration, I think.

Indeed.

The government has chosen to prioritise reducing (skilled, legal, for work) migration over growth and hence over improving public services.

No economic rationale - but even worse, no political rationale either.

I assume all the 'hurty word' free speech warriors that were crying their eyes out over Lucy Connolly will be absolutely furious about the guy who has just been sent to prison for his social media posts about Nigel Farage.

Here are Putins' pet toad, Orban, and his pet frog Farage.

Farage says they are fighting for the nation state. Yes, they are... they are fighting for Russia.

“The worst case possible [Brexit] scenario is better than where we are today” said Nigel Farage in 2016.

There are some things I wouldn’t mind us having to pay higher taxes for - better public services, etc - but picking up the difference between Farage’s bullshit & reality ain’t one of ‘em.

“Make Brexit work” by raising taxes to stem the ongoing losses.
Slavish devotion to failed ideology has a very high price.

All the more striking that Farage was able to threaten his opponents with terrorist violence, but faced zero consequence.

Rich, white members of the establishment (even otherwise humourless ones) get to shrug off their own horrific threats as “just a joke”.

Poor Tommy Robinson. What possible reason could the border police have had for stopping a known criminal who is being investigated by HMRC from taking £13,000 in cash abroad while driving a Bentley that wasn’t his and refusing to answer their questions? It’s an outrage!

Amazing. It’s almost as if Matthew Syed & that bloke from CapX don’t have their finger on the nation’s pulse after all.

If our thought leaders are wrong, how will any of us know what to think?

If the Kemi Badenoch fan club has a telephone number, I don’t expect it’ll be struggling to cope with huge numbers of calls, regardless of anything Matthew Syed & that CapX bloke Dinnage would have you think.
Joseph Dinnage at CapX: “Yet the best speech of the bunch came last. Over the last year, many aspersions have been cast on Badenoch. In his infamous long read on her leadership, the New Statesman’s Will Lloyd characterised her as abrasive, incompetent and most damningly, lazy. Yet none of that was on display in her speech on the conference’s final day.

She was upbeat, funny and full of what her leadership had traditionally lacked – policies. At the centre of her offering is a pledge to find £47 billion of public spending cuts to get the deficit down and ideally fund some pro-growth tax cuts, the most exciting of which is her pledge to abolish stamp duty.” Matthew Syed: “I joined the Conservative Party last week. That's me: while others are abandoning ship, I get on board. Call me quaint, bloody-minded, mad, whatever. I want to explain here why I did so, why the Tory party matters - perhaps more than ever before - and why I think it will either
win the next election or die.”

But the lobby said Badenoch's speech was a triumphant success? I don't understand?

Let's make sure everyone knows about the activities that senior Reform members have gotten up to.

These are not people we can trust to run out country.

Make sure people never forget!
