I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

It's remarkable how perfectly this awful story is similar to The Dreyfuss Affair, from the banishment to a cruel tropical prison to the world's worst and stupidest people refusing to let it go even for decades after he was freed.
This is just some ordinary dude no one had ever heard of, quietly getting by, and the administration has decided in a fit of pique to hound him for the rest of his life because otherwise they'd have to tacitly admit they're capricious incompetent villains. Just let him live, ffs

This is great. The fight is not over but when he was in El Salvador it seemed this day would never come. I am not going to forget the bravery of Senator Van Hollen.
BREAKING: Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been released.
NEW: A federal judge ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia — the Maryland man who was wrongly removed from the U.S. and sent to El Salvador without due process by the Trump administration — to be released from an ICE detention center, ruling his detention unlawful.

The heist, "caught on film", had texture and warmth and an indescribable aura of authenticity that it would have lacked had it been shot with digital cameras.

People should do what makes them happy, and caffeine isn’t for everyone, but it’s worth noting that black coffee is good for you on balance, so there’s not a tradeoff for most people. It’s a win-win.
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

Hochul signed the crypto amendments to the Uniform Commercial Code. This is a huge embarrassment and a policy disaster. (I am not blaming her in particular, this law has been passed by a lot of states.)

The way the crypto industry corrupted the ULC and the legal profession generally is horrific.

Carnation milk is the best in the land.
I’ve got a can of it here in my hand —
No teats to pull, no hay to pitch:
You just punch a hole in the son of a bitch.

Though I suppose I had endurance, toughness, faith,
Sensitivity, intelligence and talent. My mind’s not right.
With groined, sinning eyeballs I write sonnets until dawn
Is published over London like rows of books by Faber –
Then shave myself with Uncle’s full-dress sabre.

I’ve had two excellent ciders lately:

Scrumpy Ewe’s Stonecutter cider is always exquisite.

The other really good one was a single variety Puget Spice from Eve’s, sadly not available at the moment on their website. It is labeled as dry but it seems fairly sweet to me. Intensely tart. Delicious.

My darkest thoughts these days are about how all crimes in DC are, as I understand it, federal and therefore within Trump’s power to pardon
The president who watched Jan. 6 violence on TV and responded to Kevin McCarthy's desperate call from inside the Capitol with "well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you" doesn't think death threats against anyone even a little in his way is a bad thing?

Huh.
Marjorie Taylor Greene claims she shared with Trump death threat she received that he incited, and his response was "extremely unkind"

Philemon and Baucis, Thom Gunn:

They put unease behind them
A long time back, a long time back forgot
How each woke separate through the pale grey night,
A long time back forgot the days when each
—Riding the other’s nervous exuberance—
Knew the slow thrill of learning how to love

I say that Charlie Kirk
Did what he had to do.
He died in Orem Utah,
But that is nothing new.

Afraid they might be beaten
Before the bench of Time,
They turned a trick by forgery
And blackened his good name.
I'm not quite sure where to start
