Barrett is now suggesting that the Voting Rights Act may be BEYOND CONGRESS’S POWER TO ENFORCE THE RECONSTRUCTION AMENDMENTS.

Neoconfederate stuff here.

But even before 1929, the House had stopped growing with the population. The last time it was expanded in 1911, at which time there were only 216k people per district.

In the early Republic, it was around 30k per district.

Smaller districts, representing local communities more efficiently. Doesn't even require a constitutional amendment. We just have to get rid of the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929.

When that was passed, each House seat represented about 280k people. Today its 786k.

Ideally, we'd need a combination of making Congress more proportionately representative and giving the federal government more power to police redistricting.

STV and MMP are potential solutions, but in America they'd likely lead to an even more yt Congress.

Personally, I prefer uncapping the House

If this court overturns its own prior ruling on Section 2 of the VRA, we have no choice but to not only pack the court, but to radically restructure representation in the US.

The only question to me is if the ruling is written in such a way that this happens in 2026, 2028, or after the 2030 Census. The "solid South" is back, just with the color swapped.

This entire argument by Louisiana and the conservatives questions are premised on an erasure of Congress’ enforcement power under the 14th & 15th Amendments.

Literally swinging for the fences to wipe out the premise for the legitimacy of Congress’ power to enact civil rights statutes.

“the constitution forbids race conscious remedies” would be news to the people who wrote the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments

The hotel gave us free made-to-order breakfast because they assumed we were part of one of two conferences taking place there (Hola nice Redbull guy!!) and we asked for a bacon sandwich for our dogs.

Y'ALL. 🥓 ♾️

Trump’s power depends on maintaining the illusion that he’s all-powerful, and that Americans adore him.

But that illusion is harder to maintain if millions of people are in the streets protesting.

This is why Republicans are trying to discredit No Kings Day rallies before they've even happened.

fantasy map illustration depicting a landscape full of ragged mountains up and down, crossed by crooked roads, some on giant stone structures. There is a valley with hills and woods to the south, a desert with wretched lands just east of it, wetlands to the west and east with flooded cities and temples, snowy plains to the northeast with a giant skeleton and tree and an impossibly tall mountain in the northwest whose peak is obscured by dark clouds.

Trump is upfront in saying he will use the shutdown to punish Democrats, and here are the receipts. About $27.2 billion cut from Dem districts compared to about $0.7 billion in GOP districts.
