At the same time that the Luxon govt is finding as many new ways to make the #ClimateCrisis worse, it’s also telling New Zealanders it won’t help when their property is destroyed by climate change (unless you’re a farmer presumably). #nzpol

Hark, Speaker Mike Johnson! Looking at all the many, many pics of the enormous, joyous “No Kings” rallies throughout the United States today, I am struck by what lovely weather your Lord and Savior provided. Apparently, God is a fan of, as you claimed, "America-hating Antifa terrorists." Glory!

People don’t understand, and this shit from Collins is playing on it, is that these are not just pay disputes.

This government is engaging in massive adulteration of the public systems. They want to break and privatise health. They want to infiltrate education for profit. #nzpol

This is correct. It’s VCs who spend their time doing drugs and inventing weird religions, executives who have boners about firing workers, and non-technical hucksters who are pushing this stuff. The vast majority of people doing actual technical work on the ground feel the way this piece describes
Okay, for the folks who asked: here's the majority AI view, writing up the reasonable, thoughtful view on AI that the vast majority of people in tech hold, that gets overshadowed by the bluster and hype of the tycoons trying to shill their nonsense. anildash.com/2025/10/17/t... Please share!

So we let the two supposed narco terrorists go rather than have the Trump admin show their proof in a US court.

WOW Chicago!!
The No Kings March in Chicago is one of the largest gatherings I’ve seen here. Looking down from by the river, the crowd stretches for blocks down Michigan Ave and wraps around Wacker Dr. This video is from a few minutes ago and the end of the protest is nowhere in sight.

If we HAVE to have opinion pieces in media, it should be people like this who are writing them. People who are either experts in their field, or who have dug deep into the issues. I don't want the vibes of some two-bit fraudster who had a quick google before this week's deadline.

Looks like the Russians like his Russia tie. It’s not red-white-blue either. It’s red-blue-white. Like the Russian flag. For a meeting with Zelensky.

The thing is, a lot of people, even people who think of themselves as proper, decent people, share that instinct. They are also annoyed by people nagging them to be better. They also feel the pull of *permission* -- permission to indulge, to hate, to stop thinking so much.

In short I don't think anybody really believes, in their head, in their gut, that conservatism is better in the sense of being *morally* better, more noble, more virtuous. Everyone knows, on some level, that conservatism is permission *not* to be good, permission to simply be tribal & selfish.

... work & sacrifice. Not only physical & political work but *intellectual* work. You have to learn to think differently. It's hard. The people pestering you to do it are annoying. The people saying, "hey fuck all that, enjoy your privilege, wallow in your worst instincts" are les threatening.

Basically I think progressivism -- moving toward greater equality under law -- is moral & good, & conservatism -- preserving existing social & power hierarchies -- is bad & wrong, & furthermore, I think everyone *knows* this on some level. The thing is, being good is *hard* & often requires ...

You’d think if the Trump admin was so certain they were drug trafficking terrorists that it tried to kill them, it would have enough evidence to prosecute them. But like with Abrego Garcia, Trump sees deportation as a way to avoid the justice system: to accuse without having to prove guilt.
Breaking News: The Trump administration has decided to repatriate two survivors of a deadly U.S. strike this week on suspected drug runners in the Caribbean Sea rather than prosecute them or hold them in military detention, people with knowledge of the matter said on Saturday.
U.S. to Repatriate Survivors of Its Strike on Suspected Drug Vessel
The U.S. military rescued the two men in the Caribbean Sea after Special Operations forces fired on a semi-submersible that was assessed to be smuggling drugs.
