It's here!

Roadkill is out in the world. I can't in good conscience recommend it to all readers. A sad and angry book. 90% of the animal characters are dead at the outset & the humans don't fare much better. But if you're in the mood for an unconventional eco-horror experience, links in comments!
Book cover for Roadkill by Helen Whistberry showing a bird, raccoon, and snake skeleton sprawled across a dark asphalt highway with yellow dotted line. The title is in large yellow letters that have blood streaming down them and out onto the road and animals. There is a dark and stormy sky in the background. Black and white illustration of the head and neck of a howling wolf in profile. Its mouth is wide open and a dark liquid is trickling from its mouth, snout, and eye.

Short story collections should be way more popular and marketed better for the short-attention present.

this is only literary opinion adjacent but it is definitely unhinged

when I am stocking copies of a face-out book at the bookstore, I will put the fresh copies behind any copies already on the shelf, because they’ve been waiting their turn to be picked and I don’t want their feelings to get hurt

Please help me choose which drawing to submit for my university's faculty & staff art show this spring by liking your favorite in the thread below 👇

My university just sent out a call for submissions for a faculty & staff art show that they're hosting in the spring

So.... Obviously I have to submit something, right?

Which drawing do I put on display for the whole university to see? How am I supposed to choose??

the national diet told me godzilla keeps eating their boats so I asked how many boats they have and they said they just find the exact spot the last boat vanished and send a new boat afterwards so I said it sounds like they're just feeding boats to godzilla and a scientist's daughter started crying.

Tonight's movie #2: Scream (Taste) of Fear 1961, excellent psychological thriller with Susan Strasberg and Christopher Lee. Very atmospheric and very cleverly laid out twists and turns in beautiful black and white photography from Hammer Films

This little owl charm was a commission by a friend to be part of a memorial for his grandmother, as she loved owls. I'm honoured and touched that he has so much faith in me, and I've done my best to make it as good as I can.

It still needs painting and finishing, but I think the carving is done!

The long neck of herons and egrets are soelegant! Perfect for harmonious lines in drawing 🎨
Did you know that herons fly with their necks folded, while cranes and storks keep them stretched out? 🪶

Since other people are talking about it, I thought I would share that I also have a pillowfort account: www.pillowfort.social/rebeccawangart

I am not really very active on there; I signed up for it a while ago as a backup but I might start posting on there regularly.

Tonight's movie: Cold Skin 2017. Very mixed feelings on this one. Beautiful scenery and atmosphere, effective visual effects, good acting, but the plot made zero sense. Kind of a metaphorical, man's inhumanity to man (and the "other"), Lovecraftian attempt that fell flat for me🤷🏻‍♂️

It's still in beta and with a small user base. Reminds me of the early bluesky days before it went public. Kind of peaceful to be on a less busy site in some ways 😂 No idea if it will grow to be a larger site or not, but I just wanted one backup social media presence, at least!

Best cure for art block is to just draw whatever the most recent bird uploaded to inaturalist is, in this case it’s a roadside hawk

#birdart 🪶
Digital drawing of a Roadside Hawk. Along the bottom it is captioned with “Rupornis magnitostris”, the bird’s Latin name.

They're anti-AI too, which is nice to not have to worry so much about whether art there is AI or not. I'm gonna try posting a bit of art and see how it goes!

From what little I've seen, it looks very tumblr like because you can write longer posts and add tags. Looks like you have to join different communities in order to find people and get more visibility. I joined a couple of art ones. Looks very queer friendly so far. Small user base though
