So they didn’t like the ad. Let’s just post Reagan’s 5 min speech against tariffs as it appears on YouTube.

Over and over. On all platforms (some of y’all are still on X).

Most of the time I'm trucking along writing my unprofitable little books, just trying to keep my eyes on my own paper and not spiral, and then I see a writer making excuses about why they can't finish their book they did a KS that made $95K and I have no idea what I am even doing with my life.

If a temporary resident of the White House can totally demolish the East Wing to build a gaudy ballroom, without any authority, approval, or regulation, he can tear down the rest of the White House to build a Walmart. That this destruction is allowed underscores how off the rails our country is now.

When you are a new creator, whether in prose, comics, or other media, it can be very tempting to agree to every convention or other event that you're asked to do. Exposure is great, right? And it's wonderful to be wanted.

David and Larry Ellisons’ sloptastic vision for Hollywood is coming into focus:

“Paramount has reportedly signed a $200M+ multiyear deal for Higgsfield AI to use mass-use Popcorn AI model that ingests dailies and script notes, then outputs regional cuts: new leads, alternate jokes, revised endings”

I’d love it if the next big thing in publishing is people buying lots of books.

Incredible that Krista did a thread yesterday about the importance of book sales this month to help writers over the holidays and, at least for me, it resulted in more theft than sales.

Dweller is on for $3, ffs. It's free on Kobo Plus.

I love this book; I think Skyla hit it out of the park. Taut, wonderfully paced, luminous writing, just wonderful--and the ending reveal, my GODS.
The Silent Places is a domestic thriller about a woman living in the Yukon whose husband disappeared a year earlier. When there's fresh interest in the case, and with her back against the wall, it delves into what a woman will do to survive.

Consensus is that it's a brutal read but a valuable one.

Trump is pissed about an ad that Canada recently ran in the U.S. showing Ronald Reagan talking about tariffs in 1987.

“Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”

Another piece of Trump fallout. I don't know when we'll hit critical mass of Americans really seeing what's happening, but I hope it's soon.
This brilliant little article gets at what I’ve seen but haven’t yet read: Chicago locals, regardless of status, are apprehensive about venturing out to restaurants and food stalls targeted by ICE. The result is a whole sector in economic and social crisis.

ICE presence in Chicago has hurt the local economies in immigrant communities — which could in turn put a financial strain on the city at large.

Americans want to watch charismatic people solve moderately difficult problems on a weekly basis. That’s it. And a group of fomo execs and techbros who don’t watch TV drove one of the most profitable industries in the US off a cliff rather than accept that.
Look what happenes when a TV show releases every year, with more than 8 episodes a season.
