The UAE - a country where it’s notoriously hard to get citizenship— have really worked the global transfer market to come up with their “national” team. This is the lineup for massive game v Qatar. A World Cup place at stake. Qatar on the other hand somehow given home advantage for qualifying comp.

I miss England World Cup qualifiers actually having jeopardy or meaning. I remember when England sealed their spot at France 98 with that tense draw in Italy, everyone in the pub went mental. There probably won't even be anyone in the pubs tonight

Excellent look-back, Tom. When I interviewed Sitton for the Obs at the time, the great Jane Bown took the photos of him. Ever perceptive, she said later, “He’s a troubled man, vulnerable. Doesn’t know how to smile. Obviously feels very sorry for himself.”
Oddly, I felt sorry for him too.

Gianni Infantino's latest Instagram post on how FIFA is going to help the Palestinians is only for those with strong stomachs. Infantino appears to be laying the ground to buy off the Palestinian Football Association and get them to drop their complaint against Israel, which has FIFA in a corner.
