New from me: Trump's AI policy is a disaster in the making. To understand why, we need to revisit the work of Albert Hirschman and his disciples across development economics.

This was made much easier by the amazing work of @josephpolitano.bsky.social on the US semiconductor industry. 1/2
Trump's AI Tariff Boondoggle
Why CHIPS and the IRA made sense, but Trump's tariff policy doesn't (lessons from Albert Hirschman)

I am one of the prophets. Used it in my Western Humanities class years ago, and it is still a banger

What's everyone's favorite way to keep track of new publications in your field? #academics #academicsky

Hey, I recognize this essay! (It is soooo goood.)

For everyone's "correlation is not causation" needs.

i feel like you dont' see this talked about enough

There's also some interesting theological world building happening in the background with the demons and gods, and the ancient weird technologies. Lots of fun, but also nice and relaxing with tons of good one-liners.

Was that cum or just a lubricant leak from the shitty construction of her body?
thirdthoughts.bsky.social
Been on a binge of @tkingfisher.com books lately. Trying to decide whether my favorite pairing is "foot-in-mouth ginger disaster-gay-otter X nerdy mortician twink who needs a vegitarian sandwich" or "introvert bear who smells of gingerbread and knits X autistic perfumer with bloodhound nose"
thirdthoughts.bsky.social
Important world building questions raised. How do the AIs manufacture the cum? Does Roko smell like bread and Bubbles like herbal tea?

Moray probably has it easiest, I imagine her fluid is modifiable in some ways.

This is how you beat censorship, kids. There are always holes if you know where to look.

This still sounds like DEI to me (laudatory)

Disney's events include the "art of belonging" in relation to hit movies like
"Moana," set in Polynesia, and
"Encanto," which takes place in Colom-bia.
There's also an on-demand session titled: "Belong & Thrive: The Joy of Intersectionality, Allyship & Inclusion."

The slippery slope to a 2028 ska revival. (complimentary)

Excellent op-ed from Bowman on the Pentagon "media policy" rule - aka making journalists into stenographers. From a political science perspective, it's also an interesting look at how state-associated media outlets can still resist.
Opinion: Why I'm handing in my Pentagon press pass
Tom Bowman has held his Pentagon press pass for 28 years. He says the Pentagon's new media policy makes it impossible to be a journalist, which means finding out what's really going on behind the scen...

Any sense if the lower equipment loss rates are due to emptied out storage yards, or is it more of a weather-related issue preventing larger offensives, or some both-and/third issue?

over and over again I am encouraged by the way this guy reaches out to constituencies who aren’t naturally part of his coalition - not to pander for votes with changing views but to try to find common ground and work together on stuff he believes in

he’ll need every bit of that attitude as mayor
jamellebouie.net
we’ll see how his mayoral tenure shakes out but i am convinced that Mamdani has the juice. not just the charisma to win an election but the temperament to govern and the measured pragmatism of someone who genuinely believes what they’re saying and wants to accomplish real things.

Day 3: much less gas/nausea. Should've been awful migraine day but was actually pretty mild, was able to go for long drive to visit a friend. Sugar remarkably stable. Which helps a lot with migraine anxiety loops, etc.
thirdthoughts.bsky.social
Day 2: still reduced cravings, and also *altered* cravings. Actually craving vegetables, and today is a migraine day so usually it'd be chocolate/pastries/ice cream. Sugar staying even, feel sated after small bowls of food. Some minor gas/bloat but GasX did the trick without the hunger returning.

Day 1 of semaglutide, took it around dinner, and I already am not having my 1am cravings? And nausea is quite mild.

Is this witchcraft? I hope so.

They do get used a lot more in cold weather areas - cuts down on snow scraping and wiper replacements and salt damage a little. But a lot of people still use them for other purposes or do a 50/50 split.

Current house doesnt have one and I want it for workshop space, not parking 🤣

No lie this is so unhinged I thought he was talking to like, Lakota Man, instead of freakin' Derek.

Stoller really seems like a normal and well-adjusted guy
Matt Stoller @ @matthewstol...14h S
Your weird insecurities aside, you consistently lie that native born Americans can't and never have made clothes, and push offshoring in sleazy ways. Then when confronted you talk about your left wing views. You're slime.

Ironically, this is why I liked Gatsby so much in school. It felt *very* relatable to why the world felt like shit.

This is the take. You think the millenials started on LITERATEUR? I started on telepathic deer-men and shapechanging teenagers fighting an army of slugs. (Animorphs rules)

I don’t care if it’s Dan Brown airport garbage or unhinged omegaverse fanfiction on AO3, if it gets you reading it’s doing you more good than harm

Oof. This hits right in my undergraduate degree feels.

I prefer a chronological approach. Philosophy was invented by Frege, so I’d start there.
