The obvious corollary to all of this is that it is utterly pointless for Canada to negotiate *anything* with Trump. This includes the USMCA.
The sooner Mark Carney acknowledges this, the sooner Canada can get to the business of addressing the US threat in a realistic manner.

I thought @bhaggart.bsky.social's piece was clear-eyed and frustrating.

I don't see that Carney has done very much to continue to deserve our trust. I'm still feeling burned by the grace I extended the Biden admin; so often, too late, we saw there was never a plan.

But today, in 2025, we can no longer count on US benevolence. We no longer share these values. The US seeks dominance. And Canada remains of strategic importance to their prosperity and security. It’s a sobering thought that needs to be factored into any of our plans. But first we need to have that conversation. While it not might be clear to most people yet, Canada is still in reaction mode. We’re still in that horror movie, walking deliberately down the stairs into the basement, oblivious to the peril that every horror fan knows awaits us.
