I have been posting fewer doomscrolling reminders because I've been doomscrolling for several hours a day after pretty bad news last week. There's also a lot of bad news in general.

Please make sure to eat something today, drink a big glass of water, and try to charge your phone away from your bed.

NC House Rep. Rodney Pierce is a perfect example of the difference authentic representation makes.

In 2024, Rep. Pierce knocked out a sleazy and corrupt 10-term incumbent, and now the people of northeast NC have a voice in the North Carolina legislature responding to attempts to rig our elections.

I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.
This + it seemed like a springing off point for folks to get more involved.

There were similar sentiments it seemed about the Target boycott, and you see how impactful that has been.

The point is, we all have to start somewhere. And every activity isnt for everybody and thats fine.
I've seen multiple posts recently saying No Kings had no demands and I think I see what they mean but that also feels... not quite right to me

For one there's a demand in the name lol "no kings," like everyone was demanding an end to authoritarianism

You have to be willing to walk away from these guys if they let you down, just as a matter of basic self respect. It's not a fandom. You're hiring them to do a job or not.
I liked the Platner ads too but I think there's a difference between "guy who had some bad reddit posts a decade ago" and "ex-Blackwater merc who still has a Nazi tattoo." Sucks bigtime that he's the only one taking positions and talking policy I like, but them's the breaks!

Love it! And I would volunteer if that opportunity became available.
“We are a nation that has the potential to solve our hunger crisis that hasn’t,” Woods stresses. “I don’t think too many people need to have it explained to them how dire the need is in this particular moment for work that touches at the intersection of hunger and poverty.”

Just since February, over 300 North Carolina homeowners across Western NC have applied for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grants to help rebuild their homes.

None - zero - have been approved.

Neither the White House nor WNC's Republican Congressman Chuck Edwards will even comment on it.

What's going on?

I never thought about it like this but this is basically like household management 101. A busy mom would understand this in a heartbeat.
And soldiers have to eat *every day!* Multiple times!

I’ve been watching a lot of those “How the navy feeds 1,500 people on a destroyer” videos and “how this kitchen feeds 3,000 Mongolian miners every day” and I think it would be good for people to watch to understand these logistical challenges.

Lucy Dacus and Janelle Monáe discuss AI chatbots and how technology in culture has shifted in the last fifteen years.

Lucy: "It seems like an easy way for people to get out of the dirt and grime of having to coexist. Like when people are like, 'oh I want my digital girlfriend...'"

Today the legislature returns to Raleigh focused on a power-grab redistricting effort, not the critical issues impacting North Carolinians.

The General Assembly must act now to invest in public safety and fully fund Medicaid.
