1052) Schadenfreudebot. There's nothing as unedifying as schadenfreude - taking pleasure in the misfortune of another - and yet the impulse to do so is almost irresistible. So, to spare your dignity, outsource your cruel mirth to this helpful robot.
Solidarity. Argh.
At least our insurance still works, I've got a dentist visit coming up...

More seriously, Mamdani's win is far more significant and hopeful than the old-school socialists of Milwaukee winning over German and Polish immigrants with sewers, parks and schools while ignoring segregation and telling racist jokes at public events.
After a very long run, Milwaukee cedes the title of largest city in the US to have had a socialist mayor.
Nah, I visited in June & even as a Willie Nelson tribute it was just an oversized version of state fair seed art

I need to hear politicians demanding people be held accountable under the extremely clear terms of the 8th Amendment, which allows for NO cruel and unusual punishment. The people facilitating this cruelty are committing treason and crimes against humanity.
There is no privacy at all at Broadview, and people are forced to use the bathroom in full view of other people held in detention and ICE officers. Men were able to see into the women's toilets and vice versa.

There was no soap, or hand sanitizer (and in some cells no sinks), adding to the filth.

American East Coast subreddits tonight: "What the fuck was that weird spiral in the sky? Was it Aliens?"

No, y'all it was the Ariane 6 launch with Sentinel 1-D which is still pretty damn cool, gogo synthetic aperture radar.

Meet our newest patient here at the Alaska Raptor Center, a Northern Pygmy Owl named King Owlbert by his rescuers. Owlbert arrived with a drooping wing, making flight difficult. We’ve given him a supportive wing wrap, plenty of tasty mice, and time to heal. #small #owls #adorable

Still $486 to keep the single mom from being evicted. That's all that's left of the 2-month's rent she got behind when she had her accident. Get w/ Aji b/c the check's to be made out to the LL or mgmt company, not to her & def not to Aji but Aji's got the name & address on this.
Second thing: I have another young single mom battling eviction. Recent accident put her 2 mos behind on rent. She's paid 1 month up, but if she doesn't get the other one paid ASAP, they go froward with proceedings. Total is $736.
Alt text addendum: the checklist is titled "mrrp list," and there is a green-and-blue fountain pen sitting on it
"How hard could it be?" I thought. "Mei Mei le Squoofins is mostly black, & JL has a ton of reference photos..."

...yeah, harder than that. But, despite that, may I present One Art!
Must not have been too jalapeño-ey, or he'd be regretting his strategy instead...
My dad is a Kurt.
He is a dingus about gloves.
Alas, I cannot tag him here...

SNAP *is* the safety net. it’s not just another benefit or program, as some wonks have framed it. if republicans don’t follow the law, this will — not could, will — turn into a humanitarian disaster like nothing we’ve seen in my lifetime. this can get lost in the policyspeak.

Taking a walk yesterday I saw an extremely round albino squirrel eating someone's carved pumpkin.
...my class did that in 2000.
I voted Gore...
I've been on furlough for a month. Today I helped an older friend wash windows; last week we put up her deer netting. I have fixed so many bikes at the charity bike shop. I have made desserts for my friends. Next week I'll start sub teaching.
Some of us are like working dog breeds...
Is that "the aftermath of using a knife to pit an avocado, instead of a spoon like a reasonable person" in plushy form?
Not sure Tolkein would mind the Catholic part, did he live long enough to see Vatican 2?

Maybe Mormon, in all honesty--at least after he decides he wants to rule his own kingdom
I think that's actually the official name?
This is a very sulky ship all-around. Could use some little old ladies to get it into shape...
He's too busy sulking about spiders to listen anyway.
"Sorry, engines are sulking." "Can we bribe them with bacon?"
Isn't there a common genre of "English on holiday" whinefest about e.g. Italians speaking Italian in Italy?
