Earlier today I was listening to one of the hosts from Here and Now repeatedly ask a resident from Southeast Chicago whether throwing rocks at ICE was justified. And finally she just said, "They invaded our community. They have machine guns."
Wow. New Economist poll finds only 34% of Americans say ICE's use of force has been justified, vs 51% who say it's been excessive. And they oppose agents wearing masks by 52-35.

Yep, ICE is becoming a pariah agency, and that's gaining deep penetration in the culture:
ICE's military raids and masked kidnappings are resonating deeply/negatively in the cultural spaces we keep hearing Dems need to reach: Manosphere, Joe Rogan, country music, disengaged voters. That's rare and it gives Dems a big opening to engage.

Thoughts on this:

They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

"The Media School directed us to print no news in the paper... nothing but information about homecoming — no other news at all, and particularly no traditional front page news coverage."
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.

Indiana University fires IDS
adviser amid push to control
student newspaper's content The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.

Brown rejects the compact!

President Paxson’s letter references the views of stakeholders - & I know as an alum how activated the Brown community was while the school considered its response - an important reminder of how much organizing matters

that they left em masse, at least, seems like a good sign
NEW for @washingtonpost.com:

Pentagon reporters exited the building in unison Wednesday after turning in their badges, having refused to sign the Defense Department's press policy.

@nancyayoussef.bsky.social called it a “sad day for those who support a free press.”
Reporters leave Pentagon en masse after refusing to sign on to new rules
After turning in their press credentials, journalists covering the Defense Department walked out rather than comply with its restrictive new policies.

I'm not commenting on scotus today because I have to focus on one dumpster fire at a time so as not to have a heart attack in my 30s. I will just say, today is a great day to learn more about Reconstruction. I'll keep recommending Black Reconstruction as one of my favorite books on the period.

The thing about these guys is they're awful. And while there's always a subset of humans that are awful, the question to ask is why do they keep getting access to power
Thousands of posts from a private Young Republican Telegram chat reveal a culture of casual racism/antisemitism, rape jokes and celebration of Hitler/Nazism.

Some of the ringleaders are below: We live in a world where 4chan types now occupy positions of real power.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.
Damn, Ensure??
Also 👀: "Compounding the problem is the exploding popularity of protein-fortified foods, snacks, and beverages, which are designed to supplant conventional foods in American diets but are frequently made with the same problematic ingredients as the supplements."
my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

If Keira really wasn't aware, then she needs to fire her team because they absolutely suck at their job. But also, I don't buy for a second that she didn't know. JKR being terrible is not a little known fact. She's put her face at the forefront of TERF legislation in the UK.
Ugh this is extremely shitty
oh no. no. absolutely the fuck not. fuck off.
a bullshit statement from Keira knightley saying she was not aware of a boycott against jk Rowling before taking a job on the new audio series and that she's "sorry" and "we're all going to have to figure out how to live together and we've all got very different opinions"
 She can fuck off.

This also places unreasonable, unlivable pressure on service workers, as does being surveilled on social media. People are not at their best at every moment. They get terse, they don’t smile, they act rushed. They might even be slightly impatient or impolite! None of this requires tattling.
I think businesses asking people to rate every single experience has furthered this damage. We shouldn't have this many opinions about this many things, and we certainly shouldn't expect other busy people to care if we do.
few ideas have damaged the average psyche more than ‘the customer is always right.’ it should be a little bit humiliating, being a customer. you should walk into any service transaction knowing that the other person, and not you, is in control over whether you get your treats
This is what we should be doing in the internet instead of Q
It's cheaper than official twister costumes. They make larger twister boards too for bigger sizes but for that you're going to have to do your own research
