Most importantly, the Chinese names are homophonous with "Zohran Kwame" when pronounced in both Cantonese (the spoken language used by first-wave Chinese immigrants from the South) and Mandarin (the spoken language used by new-wave Chinese immigrants from the North).

What an absolute masterstroke.

Zohran picked 「卓蘭」("excellent orchid") for his first name and「夸梅」("brilliant plum") for his middle name.

The orchid and the plum are among "The Four Noble Ones" in traditional Chinese art, the former symbolizing an indifference to fame and fortune, the latter an indomitable, incorruptible spirit.

Yeah, some people don't/can't, depending on many circumstances! Prognosis and outcomes vary widely.

I suspect a good deal of Fetterman's behavior is the stroke, personally.

Well Victoria remains a great city to visit and Vancouver Island stays gorgeous. I think the Victorians are passively trying to petty fleece American tourists on tips but we can all agree that this is pretty justified these days.
