This @stanfordaaup.bsky.social is so necessary in this moment of attack on higher ed: "This compact is better understood as an attempt to subordinate some of the country’s most important civil society institutions to the executive branch of the federal government." stanforddaily.com/2025/10/12/f...

Agree 100% @stanfordaaup.bsky.social!

“When it inevitably comes time for Stanford to choose, we must remember that we owe our loyalty not to any executive branch official but to our own foundational principles. We must be ready, when it’s our turn, to walk away.”

It will take a generation to rebuild the United States federal government after this demolition ends, supposing that good faith elections happen again and normal humans are elected.

The plan for NSF is to demote its director to an advisory role to what a former senior figure compared to a Soviet political commissar.

Also, greatly reduce the role of rotators from academic departments to consolidate administration power.

This is a disaster for science and innovation.

Most of this laundry list of "overwhelming evidence" is tendentious. Let's go through them.
1) A big driver of high costs at public universities has been a decrease in state appropriations. Many public schools have been forced to act on a public/private model as a result..../1
The evidence is overwhelming: outrageous costs and prolonged indebtedness for students; poor outcomes, with too many students left unable to find meaningful work after graduating; some talented domestic students and scholars have been crowded out of enrollment and employment opportunities by international students; and a high degree of uniformity of thought among faculty members and administrators, which can result in a hostile environment for students with different ideas.

I fear if things don’t change right now, this image is going to come back to haunt us
Laura Rodriguez, on Twitter:

A federal agent points a weapon at a woman who was recording them.

Jess, a U.S. citizen and member of a neighborhood patrol team that documents and shares ICE activity across the city, was filming when the incident occurred earlier today in the Berwyn area.

The erasure of due process harms all of us. It doesn’t matter if you’re here legally or are a citizen if you have no opportunity to prove it. In addition, *no one* should be assaulted for a civil violation.

The scenes out of Chicago should outrage us all. These federal agents are out of control, committing senseless acts of violence & putting everyone at risk.

American citizens are being detained & brutalized.

This kind of immigration "enforcement" shouldn't be acceptable to anyone.
Immigration agents become increasingly aggressive in Chicago
Activists, residents and elected leaders say increasingly combative tactics used by federal immigration agents are sparking violence and fueling neighborhood tensions in the nation’s third-largest cit...

Professors should not be fired for speaking the truth. In this case, not only was the professor fired by the department head and school dean were also both demoted, followed by the resignation of the university president…all because the professor dared to teach about gender.

We are at the point in the honoring-Charlie-Kirk's-memory cycle when faculty are being fired for posting, without comment, Charlie Kirk's words. At the behest of politicians sworn to uphold the first amendment, and in public institutions covered by first amendment protections.
Senator Marsha Blackburn tagging a public university for a facebook post where a professor share's Kirk's comments saying gun deaths are worth it.
