A beagle on a beach. The tide is out, the sun is shining, and the sky is a beautiful blue. Where would you rather be? #ShareTheShore is a hashtag adopted by local residents of Greenisland near Carrickfergus to campaign for access to our (i.e. owned by the Council) beach, that is currently closed off and inaccessible to residents who live a matter of metres away. We have to trespass or climb high forbidding fences just to access what is on our doorstep. We want residents and visitors to be able to experience the beauty of our shoreline, to be able to enjoy and care for our environment and neighbourhood. The benefits to physical and mental health, as well as a sense of community, are self-evident. Please visit the consultation, fill out the form, and say YES! Thank you! No way! Rapamycin has a brilliant story, validating weirdo bluesky research (no pun intended), from Easter Island to the clinic. I have some patients with other TRPMx gene abnormalities, and now I'm wondering about whether rapalogs might have anti-seizure effects (wanders off down rappit hole...)

Wow, this is an interesting and rather sobering story: the commonly used drug rapamycin turns out in this particular application to be working via a completely different mechanism from its usual one, which no one had predicted.

It's linked to a (likely) probability that there's only so advanced a civilisation can even get, at least in terms of interstellar tech. Dyson spheres & FTL are likely impossible or unfeasible. A Kardashev limit.

In other news: Single Transferable Vote is the only way to ensure constituency representation by consensus and avoidance of tyranny-by-the-biggest-minority. It's actually the *true* "first past the post" system, as "the post" is set at 50%.
