Finally, a new show! Lots has been happening, and the last week has been very difficult. The loss of an old friend. The 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the Federal Flood. Lots of emotions to process. (1/3)

i have to be honest, gang, i have some questions about this republican strategy of telling everyone to tune in and pay attention to what’s likely to be one of the largest days of political protest in american history directed at the republican party

Johnson: "We call it the Hate America Rally that will happen Saturday. Let's see who shows up for that. I bet you you'll see Hamas supporters, I bet you'll see antifa types, I bet you'll see Marxists on full display, people who don't want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic"

In light of the fact that students protested the university's participation in genocide, Cole argues that the university should reinstate disciplined students, ask NYC to drop criminal charges, and reopen campus gates to the public. All very reasonable points.

A swastika was found in the office of a far-right Republican. The only explanation is that his office was vandalized.

Here’s how to make those taters: 2 LARGE Yukon gold potatoes, cut lengthwise then crossways into 1/2” slices. Parboil in enough water to cover with 2 Tbsp salt & 1 Tbsp white vinegar til you can pierce them. Drain & toss in a colander to roughen the surface.

Air fry at 425°F til crispy. 🤌🏻

#Dinner last night. Baked eggs in gabbagool cups (as I was out of prosciutto). Perfect crispy air-fried potatoes with Italian seasoning blend and a little grated Parmigiano. Spinach salad with blue cheese dressing. 👨🏼‍🍳😘🤌🏻
On the left of the plate, two baked eggs in cappacola cups. In front, a giant serving of crispy air fried potatoes (just a quick spray of olive oil spray so zero Weight Watchers points). In the back, green spinach leaves with a white dressing.

I think so too, but this for all those “too soon what about his kids” people.

Finally, some good news in public broadcasting.

Pennsylvania's WPSU will stay on the air after a planned shutdown in 2026.

The Penn State-owned PBS affiliate + NPR station will become part of Philadelphia's WHYY after a "public outcry of support."

I would say a very good sign with Hegseth making life miserable for everyone at the Pentagon. You now have more people willing to leak and a press that isn’t concerned by having access to that they Pentagon as an org wants out

NEW for @washingtonpost.com:

Pentagon reporters exited the building in unison Wednesday after turning in their badges, having refused to sign the Defense Department's press policy.

@nancyayoussef.bsky.social called it a “sad day for those who support a free press.”
Reporters leave Pentagon en masse after refusing to sign on to new rules
After turning in their press credentials, journalists covering the Defense Department walked out rather than comply with its restrictive new policies.

I’m sure these loud and proud Nazis that keep being found in the highest ranks of the GOP are just isolated bad apples. That’s how the saying goes, right?

In my lifetime liberals have responded to movements for peace, equality, justice they can't control by whining they support our ideals but we're doing it all wrong. And they didn't support Rosa Parks politics either tho they claim her now: www.zinnedproject.org/materials/po...

the extent to which media elites treat liberal americans as if they do not count in the body politic is a real problem

I read the piece. You shouldn't. He dismisses the "No Kings" protests as liberals in blue cities. He invokes Rosa Parks, as if rural white people in the 60s loved everything that the movement then was doing. "We need a movement but not this one" is a core centrist tact these days.

Also, it’s David Brooks. When it’s a David Brooks piece I usually stop reading when I get to “by David Brooks.“
