Great thread on multi-camera TV.

I think partly this is down to the absolute obsession with realism, often to the exclusion of all other forms of expression. Anything even slightly heightened or, god forbid, theatrical is seen as dated.

Absolutely. And I feel like I remember BTR having brief moments that let them stretch a little further - Basil being genuinely kind to Manuel, Polly being a little more curt, Sybil being on the backfoot, etc. Though my memory might be failing me.

It might not quite be what you want, but I know some films tour with a live orchestra, such as Muppets Christmas Carol. I tend to see lots of ads for them this time of year on Instagram. Well worth it though!
