Great thread on multi-camera TV.

I think partly this is down to the absolute obsession with realism, often to the exclusion of all other forms of expression. Anything even slightly heightened or, god forbid, theatrical is seen as dated.

The death of multi-camera TV: a thread. I know most of you will know the technical parts of this (and may have read it in the other place) but bear with me. 1/ 🧵
A shot from the studio rehearsal of Doctor Who: The Daleks' Master Plan episode 'Volcano', showing several actors ont he TARDIS set, with various video cameras around the scene.

Full marks to whoever's in the costume. That's a stunning trip at 0:11 and lots of lovely business. Brilliant

Haha! Let's hope not. Though, I did manage to predict Matt Hancock entering the jungle by a whole 12 months, so if anything, he owes me royalties...

The circle of life goes on...
Image of Michael La Vache MP with the caption 'Michael walked away from the world of politics to find a more meaningful way to live his life.' Image of Michael La Vache looking like a prick in a turtle neck and thin-rimmed glasses, with the caption: 'He is now President of Global Affairs for the digital currency software firm, CryptoFascist. Based at their head office in Dildo, Sillycunt Valley.'

You're welcome!

Absolutely. And I feel like I remember BTR having brief moments that let them stretch a little further - Basil being genuinely kind to Manuel, Polly being a little more curt, Sybil being on the backfoot, etc. Though my memory might be failing me.

Another brilliant deep dive from John. Always so well-researched and thoughtfully written. Fascinating! BTR is a really fascinating final ep that does some really interesting things with the characters.

Brand new on Dirty Feed: what was special about the Fawlty Towers episode "Basil the Rat"?

Short version: it had two days in the studio, while every other episode only had one.

Long version: www.dirtyfeed.org/2025/10/tc8-...
Fawlty Towers, "Basil the Rat": the Major spots the offending creature in the bar.

Some things never change...
Fancy supplement type profile of Michael La Vache MP, complete with cringeworthy photos in 'fashionable' clothes and the headline 'Bad Boys Don't Cry: Is Michael La Vache the future of free speech and conservative politics?'

Because, you know, life is cyclical. And the shite continues to float to the top. Extract of the Michael La Vache profile in which he talks a lot about having learnt from his experiences while also believing there's nothing to be gleaned from them. A full page image of Michael looking like a right cunt. With the quote: 'I think people are scared to hear the truth. Well, I'm sorry but knock, knock: it's the truth calling... or knocking.'

Ugh. Another extract of text in which Michael vows to start putting himself and his needs first. Because of course he does.

Complete with an image of him in a chunky knit sweater pulled up over his hands and mouth. If they're going for adorable, it just comes off as rigor mortis chic.

It's all so depressingly predictable.

Unfortunately he wore it out of the photoshoot and it fell off his wrist and into an UberEats driver's warm padded bag. At least, that's what he told Darren...

It might not quite be what you want, but I know some films tour with a live orchestra, such as Muppets Christmas Carol. I tend to see lots of ads for them this time of year on Instagram. Well worth it though!
