Yes, I agree. Nothing wrong with realism; there have been many wonderful shows in that style. But television can be so much more than that!

Great thread on multi-camera TV.

I think partly this is down to the absolute obsession with realism, often to the exclusion of all other forms of expression. Anything even slightly heightened or, god forbid, theatrical is seen as dated.

The death of multi-camera TV: a thread. I know most of you will know the technical parts of this (and may have read it in the other place) but bear with me. 1/ 🧵

Seven years of Crowley Time! Seven years of spoofs, goofs, sketches, characters and messages in bottles plucked from unknown shores. If you’ve never listened to it, make today the day you step into the abyss!

In our latest episode we discuss the legendary Leyline High episode Harvest Scare-stival from 1984. (You remember? It's the one with the Corn-on-the-Cob Monster that kills the dinnerlady?)

And we also get onto the subject of our favourite autumnal hymns. 🍂

Writing fiction in the third person past tense is starting to feel as stubbornly anachronistic as making studio sitcoms with a laughter track.

It’s in the “How to Tell a Joke” section at the beginning of his Whopping Great Joke Book!
Front cover of Harry Hill’s Whopping Great Joke Book. Yellow background. Harry on the left with trademark glasses and big collar. HOW TO TELL A JOKE
I. Work up a routine of about five minutes of your favourite jokes. Work out which ones go best and open your routine with your best joke and finish it with your second best joke.
2. Get a good outfit. Then when you've got a good outfit - move around a bit and show 'em the outfit. That way your audience will think you're a success even if you aren't, yet.
3. Shakespeare once said that brevity is the soul of wit - don't worry, I don't know what he was on about either. My advice is you won't get many laughs spouting Shakespeare - stick to jokes.

Advice from Harry Hill 💛
12. Keep going. That's it, just keep going - it's all you can do.
13. Have fun. This is the most important one.
Never let it seem like work - this life you've chosen for yourself of telling jokes. It ain't work.
Sitting in an office watching other people having fun - that's work. You and me? We're the ones who escaped.
