I can’t emphasize enough how the people who are the most eager to claim status as a REAL NEW YAWKAH are the most miserable people living here. They’d be happier living in a suburb and driving to Chili’s, but are too proud to admit it.

Yes, you should be surprised and horrified by secret federal police running around our city kidnapping immigrants, crashing cars, launching chemical weapons and shooting and killing people. This is a thing you should be *perpetually* shocked by. We lose when we become numb to it.

It feels like we’ve been forgotten, maybe because there aren’t huge confrontations to run photos of. But our neighbors are still being taken every day. Routine traffic stops are now done by 12+ feds alongside local police.

Portland is 70% white, Chicago is 35% white. I'm not sure what the response to inflatable costumes would be in Chicago but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the same as it is in Portland.

Had the Aztecs and Incas shown a bit more interest in the world surrounding them - and had they known what the Spaniards had done to their neighbours - they might have resisted the Spanish conquest more keenly and successfully.
