A lot of this *waves hand in the air* really tells me that the 2020 worked. The ferocity and speed of breaking the whole society down in service to Stupid Thanos’ conception of society, self, reality underscores it.

High key appreciate the silent majority of black folk who recognize the okie doke with this dumb and dangerous regime

Yup they wanted boogaloo bait but they got frogs and unicorns, priests and grandmas. Naked cyclists and line dancing.

one response to this (correct) observation is to say “well, the cops will attack you no matter how you dress and behave.” that’s right. images of cops and ICE beating grandmas and kids in inflatable frog costumes is a win for the opposition.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

What Happened to The Migrants The U.S. Dumped In Panama?
Nearly 300 people were sent to a country they’d never lived in. The journey didn’t end there.

Thinking fondly of all the pre-election fact-checks that said we couldn’t possibly know whether Republicans wanted to get rid of pre-existing condition protections.

bari weiss is proof you can do whatever you want in america if you’re an unapologetic bigot, racist and liar. as @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social keeps telling us, democracies need to establish costs for being a lying liar.
jamellebouie.net
one of my takeaways from this great piece is that weiss just doesn’t…sound like an intelligent person? or at least, not someone who has thought even a little bit about how and why they think the things that they do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gieT...

1. Maintaining our right to public protest is essential for defeating dictatorship.
2. There are more of us than there are of them.
3. You don't have to RSVP.
4. Do more after Saturday.
5. Maybe wear a costume.
Trump Determined to Remind Us Why We Say 'No Kings'
We have frogs everywhere—a few reminders for this Saturday's monumental event.

Janet Mills has done a wonderful job as Governor. I'm from Maine and she embodies the best kind of Mainer- tough, kind, generous, and neighborly. As much as I like her, she is 77, and needs to enjoy retirement. We need fresh ideas and fresh faces in the Senate, not near Octogenarians.

"If she wins next year, Ms. Mills would be 79 at her swearing in the following January, which would make her the oldest elected freshman senator in American history."

The Regime's goal is to grind everyone down. Plain & simple. Our goal is to refuse this by taking turns to fight where and how we can. When one group needs to bow out, then another group needs to step in and so on. We don't all have to do everything. We can all do something though. Stay in the fight

Obsessed with photographer Thea Traff’s stark, color-blocky images that run alongside my restaurant review this week. Also, tbh, very pleased by my opening graf www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
THE FOOD SCENE
HOW FRENCH SHOULD A
RESTAURANT BE?
Chateau Royale, from the team behind Libertine, pulls out all of the Gallic stops without, for the most part, feeling ostentatious or conceited.

Chateau Royale both plays its Frenchness straight and wears it lightly.
Photographs by Thea Traff for The New Yorker These days, it seems like you can't flick a cigarette in this town without it smacking into a brand-new French restaurant with an old-fashioned point of view. An ocean of Le and La and L', Chez Whoever and Maison So-and-So, This or That d'Or. If, in a haze of butter and white Burgundy, you sat down to write a parody of the ur-resto for our current culinary Franco-cacophony, you could do worse than to title it "Chateau Royale," a phrase both spectacularly generic and hilariously evocative. It is also the name of a place that opened this summer, in a century-old carriage house just south of Washington Square Park, the latest spot from the restaurateur Cody Pruitt, of Libertine, and his business partner, Jacob Cohen. The semi-absurdity of the thing is on unabashed display: white-jacketed waiters? Foie gras? Escargot? Oui, oui, et oui.

Attacks on the federal workforce are also attacks on Black workers, who are overrepresented in the public sector.

Black unemployment is 7.5%. I'm reminded of Coates' observation that Black Americans regularly experience conditions that would be considered a crisis if whites faced them.

Pritzker should be held responsible for the police nominally under his control; that being said, this is going to be a problem for every politician you try to sell us on as a savior. Because everyone of them, and many of their supporters, refuses to actually confront what the police are doing.
