“With no reporters able to ask questions, it seems the Pentagon leadership will continue to rely on slick social media posts, carefully orchestrated short videos and interviews with partisan commentators and podcasters.

No one should think that's good enough.”

New in PN: Stephen Miller's radically bogus idea of "plenary authority"

"Miller’s contention about ICE officers 'having to street battle against antifa every night' is objectively absurd. Courts cannot possibly be required to accept anything Trump says, no matter how disconnected from reality."

There are hard questions we need to ask ourselves right now. But no matter what this administration is planning, we know who we are—we love democracy & plan to fight (peacefully) for it. In a moment where knowledge is power, here is what you need to know. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

This is heartbreaking but I pray it offers some peace and closure to her family. May she rest in peace. 🙏🏽

"Continued follow up on a missing persons investigation led to a piece of closure for the family of 20-year-old TSU student and mother, Alice Mae Sullivan, 39 years after she went missing.

The longest federal government shutdown so far came during Trump’s first term - lasting 35 days.

As the Republicans continue to blame Democrats for the shutdown, remember that.

Shutting down the federal government is one of the Trump Party’s favorite moves.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

NEW

Former Vice-President Kamala Harris’ statement on the ceasefire deal.

“I am thankful and deeply encouraged that this ceasefire has brought long-awaited moments of joy and reunion - as 20 Israeli hostages are finally reunited with their loved ones and Palestinian families and the people of Gaza begin to receive desperately needed relief from unimaginable suffering.

Through diplomacy and persistence, today is an important first step toward a more hopeful future. I commend the leaders and partners whose efforts made this agreement possible, including the President and his team.

There is still much more work to do to secure a lasting peace, ensure the safety and dignity of every innocent life, and build a future where Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in freedom and security.”
