I had a frank talk with my care team right before I had my C-section. My surgeon was an amazing South Asian woman who told me she was going to do her best to make sure I wasn't a statistic because I was terrified of being one of the Black women who doesn't make it out alive. She kept her promise 🥲

There’s an idea that when someone dies before retirement age from a health issue, they must’ve neglected their health, so “everyone get checked.” I want to gently push back on the idea of it being all self-neglect & remind 1) some illnesses are incurable 2) bigoted healthcare system is shit 3) cost.

Trader Joe's gets almost all of my grocery budget and I don't even feel bad. Are they hit or miss when it comes to ethnic food? Absolutely. Could they go a little harder with the seasoning on everything else? For sure. But they've got most of what I need to feed my family for less than other stores.

If you were not tested for sickle cell as a baby, please go get tested.

Before procreating with someone, ask them to get tested as well.

last month it took 5 different women begging my uncle to go to the hospital for him to go. pulmonary emoblism he walked around with for days. he even complained to the dr that it was the "annoying" women who sent him. Dr said "you stupid mf, they saved your life"
