It's really sad that entertainment overall has become a landlord economy. The people who own the platforms make the money. The people who provide the labor make crumbs in comparison.
“Average musician makes $12 a month on Spotify. The fact that they are not even able to sell a record and it’s taken from them by rich motherfuckers on streaming platforms who get paid royally by record labels,Ticketmaster, merch companies. They’re all fucking getting paid, except for the musician.”
Garbage’s Shirley Manson Speaks Out Against Music Industry Economics: “This Is An Alarm Call”

It also takes ongoing work! It’s not just coming out every few months for a few hours. It’s 3.5% calling, protesting, protecting neighbors, and gumming up the works on an ongoing daily basis. So if you were there or wanted to be there figure out something you can do every single day.
Some food for thought about yesterday. 7 million is not 3.5% — that’s more like 12 million — but if we can continue to grow and sustain yesterday’s progress the regime cannot stand.
The '3.5% rule': How a small minority can change the world
Nonviolent protests are twice as likely to succeed as armed conflicts – and those engaging a threshold of 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change.

Live your life in such a way that 7 million people don’t show up just to tell you that you are an asshole.

Genuinely huge No Kings crowd in Columbus at the Ohio Statehouse, comparable in size to the Black Lives Matter protests here in the summer of 2020 - maybe even larger, though definitely less diverse. And this while a Buckeyes football game is on, even.

No Kings in Providence, RI, was massive! Providence Journal estimates the crowd at 32,000. It was a rally, a march, and a picnic on the State House lawn. Fantastic!

No Kings Denver speaker Joe Salazar (fmr Dem state rep) tells me they estimate 25-30k gathered in Denver today, similar to the No Kings protest earlier this year. This view is from photographer Cheney Orr for the New York Times. #copolitics

DC churches rang their bells in support of protestors today.

We must keep those bells of freedom ringing.

BREAKING: Our crowd count estimate from the No Kings coalition responsible for planning today’s event is 7 MILLION nationwide.

7 MILLION of you gathered across the country to peacefully protest today.

2 million more than the first No Kings action in June.
It's official. Nearly 7 million people. Today is the single largest day of protest in American history. Americans from all corners of the country are standing up and saying #NoKings. This is what peaceful, patriotic protest looks like.

My sign is a bit wordy for a protest march, but it’s fun to watch folks pause to read it, then look at me and nod knowingly. One grizzled guy came up to me and said “That guy’s been mafioso since the 80s!“ I nodded knowingly, having read “Hiding In Plain Sight” by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social
