In a perfect world, we'll have a Universal Basic Income. Absolutely. It will be when we finally realize that, regardless of our abilities, we all have common, basic needs, and that requires a basic level of income. It's about forty years overdue.

The Tasmanian government is very versatile. So many different areas in which to be particularly bananas.

So to summarise: the Tas government bought two ships, that are years late, to run between Devonport and Geelong, but there is no wharf at all for them at Devonport because people forgot to build one and they can't safely use the wharf at Geelong.

“The Albanese Government is committed to no new extinctions” Environment Minister Murray Watt, reaffirming Labor’s 2022 pledge on Threatened Species Day 2025

2 weeks later Australia’s only shrew is declared extinct.

Recognising Threatened Species Day
7 September 2025
Today is Threatened Species Day, an opportunity to acknowledge the risks to Australia’s unique species and the work being done across the country to help them recover and thrive.

From tree plantings and weed removal to species specific mapping and monitoring using the latest conservation technology, countless individuals and organisations help every day to support and provide hope for threatened species.

It’s not just the work happening on the ground – research is finding innovative solutions to stay ahead of the game in the fight against key threats like feral cats, invasive weeds and climate change.

Steeped in ALP bullshit.
grogsgamut.bsky.social
The biggest problem with the ALP right now is it is led by someone who irrationally hates the Greens.

He doesn't really like to "fight Tories"; he loves to fight the party that reveals his actual lack of "left-wing" positions.

Someone needs to tell him to get over his uni politics crap.

"The Albanese Government is investing more than $600 million to better protect threatened plants and animals."

For context the the Albanese Government gave $12billion in spending & tax concessions to fossil fuels in the year 2024-2025. #auspol #climate

Dismissing this as irrelevant, meaningless and of 'no impact' to the energy transition is flat-out fucking climate denial.

Stop hyper-focusing on renewable energy percentage records and start worrying about Australia's already bloated coal fleet fighting for decades more life

Yes your taxes should support disabled people.

They should support homeless people.

They should support those living in poverty, children and the elderly.

This is literally the purpose of taxes, and I would far rather support those who need it than continue to enrich the elite.

This whole debacle is as good a metaphor for the Oz-US relationship as any writer could come up with.

I didn't intend to write this today

On the sick lie of sick people in a sick culture, that violence and military might can bring peace and harmony

On Trump in Israel

On the wisdom of dissenting Jews, Arendt and Butler

On the necessity of grief

To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.

I was thinking this was the exception that proves the rule, underlined by the guest role of the journo. But I see they also have a know your rights re strip searches article so maybe they are changing.

But Ketan's point stands, the headline will impact more people than the article itself
paulbr4.bsky.social
But most people won't read past the headline. And it's far more realistic to try to get the headline fixed than to try to get most people reading past the headline
