It's not about being the same. That's what authoritarians require. But it is about being clear who's on our side vs who's against us. And who can be persuaded vs who must be fought.

My belief is that we’ve never truly dealt with our fundamental denial of rights to whole groups of people, having built a country on disenfranchisement from power for vulnerable communities from our founding forward. This is the deep abyss in our country, into which we have thrown so many people—particularly Native Americans, Black folks, and immigrants. It’s the kind of deep societal weakness that antisemitism was in Nazi Germany.

There's been a lot of cope among conservatives about how the "extremists" and "radicals" on the Left have driven Leftism into ruination and defeat. In reality, the Left just put their most radical and extreme guy in charge of the most important city in our country.

The Left is not ruined. It is not defeated. They lost precisely one election. But they have not moderated. In fact they are leaning into their radicalism even more. They just elected an Attorney General who is guilty of the most extreme violent rhetoric we've ever heard from a major party candidate at any level in any race.

Wokeness is not dead. The term may be dead, but the thing itself is very much alive and well. We have to meet it aggressively and unapologetically to defeat it.
