When I was a student here over twenty years ago, this was four lanes exclusively for cars.

Now children play here while parents go shopping.

And for the ‘but Toronto has winter!’ people, this is Montreal. Which is colder than Toronto.

I like my car, always have and need it for much of my work; that doesn’t stop me from advocating for better transit, better #PlacesForPeople and cycling spaces and wishing/hoping that my city was less car dependent and better at commuting #CarFree

CNN reports that Israel has refused to release two abducted Palestinian doctors, renowned pediatrician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and Dr. Marwan Al Hams, deliberately excluding them from the ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement.
A digital poster features two Palestinian doctors, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, against a blurred background of destruction and smoke. Text at the top reads in bold yellow letters: “They are not coming home.” Below, in white and yellow text, it says: “Israel denies release of abducted Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and Dr. Marwan Al-Hams in deal.” Both men appear serious—Dr. Abu Safiya in a white medical coat, and Dr. Al-Hams in dark clothing with a stethoscope around his neck.

Fun fact: despite the enormous land mass, the population-weighted density of Canada — basically the density experienced by the average person — is the same as Denmark and close to the Netherlands.

Canada and Denmark are 3,000 people per km², while the Netherlands is 3,400/km².

antifascist only one more syllable, just saying

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

BBC decided to cancel a podcast on heat pumps deeming the topic "controversial" because it presented that the technology could contribute to net zero reducing carbon emmissions.

In 2025 an anti-science posture is not only valid, but required in any debate to be considered "balanced" 😬

Like how many people at this conference have experienced being catcalled and harassed on the street? Just this morning, I got catcalled while passing a group of dudes, and it flustered me to the point that I accidentally almost ran a red light trying to get away from them. It was a busy street...

At a transportation research conference that is still probably about 90% dudes. We miss so much in planning and engineering our communities when everyone in the room has similar experiences of how people interact with you in public space.

I don't think it's going to work out in the way they think because what they are doing is to actually promote the protest and the date in a way that the organizers can't on their own. So lots of people will now be searching: October 18 protest who would have had no clue before.

The #ceasefire in #Gaza “is an important first step, but it has to be sustainable,” our Jonathan Fowler tells TRT World.

There must be an unimpeded flow of aid, including the lifesaving supplies waiting in UNRWA warehouses.

People in Gaza need everything.

Lift the siege.
