Which made everything after it seem out of place for me- the fandom, the mech etc
Like, he buried that entire show, he rebuked all of this
Then he did the movies to remaster the whole thing, which made a TON more merch and junk, which makes me think maybe I didn’t understand him at all

The ending of Eva is the literal end to that universe, like a big retcon
Like I felt at the time End of Eva was Anno saying “fine, have more fight scenes, but the ending is still the same” kind of like saying “I’ll take your money and give you what you want but it’s still over
