That one Monmouth poll was 54 percent

There was a moment in 2020 when the public said burning a Minneapolis Police Station was at least somewhat justified.
jamellebouie.net
this is not true? the public was broadly supportive of the BLM protests bsky.app/profile/cycl...
cyclesixmile.bsky.social
I tend to agree but also during protests in 2020 there were many videos of police brutalizing people and some of the general public actually thought that was a good thing and wanted to see the police do more brutalizing. Hopefully that was just a fringe.

Snell has perfect game stuff tonight. This sucks.

My Detroit and Milwaukee connections make me feel this way about Chicago.

Wait, are there still stores there? I heard the president say that everything had burned to the ground.

The old way of laundering thinly sourced bullshit into the new was getting one of Murdoch's UK tabloids to publish it first. Bari is onshoring that job.
keptsimple.bsky.social
is this how CBS is gonna work now? using bari weiss's personal blog to launder poorly sourced and lightly edited stories (complete with a misspelling of mamdani's name in the headline) that would never pass muster if reported directly by a real news source?
newsjennifer.bsky.social
CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

Who is Mandani?

Some NYPD officers worry about Mandani becoming the NYC mayor, The Free Press reports
The Free Press spoke to several New York City Police Department officers who are worried about Zohran Mamdani becoming mayor. Olivia Reingold joins CBS News with more.

That also crossed my mind. Honestly, taking the penalty for the extra play even at the cost of the four yards might have made sense too.
michaelmirer.bsky.social
The Lions' best players made the key errors tonight (Goff penalty, Amon-Ra drop, Hutch personal foul).

The drop on fourth down in the second quarter let KC double up with a short field, and Detroit never got itself a chance to tie. Don't disagree with the decision, but it didn't work out.
michaelmirer.bsky.social
The chop and Harrison Butker are the first two things I see on the game broadcast. Let's go Lions.
michaelmirer.bsky.social
It's even worse the further you go
jeffveillette.bsky.social
Truly atrocious piece, too. Screencapping so you don't have to give them the traffic.

Literally just an emotionless, robotic summary of the game sheet, with a note telling us that they couldn't even bother getting an editor to skim it

The race to the bottom is such garbage
michaelmirer.bsky.social
Back on track for a Scorigami though.

AP is doing some AI reports and they're better than this. But a lot of that AP text is meant as filler on print sports pages anyway. If we assume there are 20K MLS fans in every market, but they watch every game, this shit is less than useless.
michaelmirer.bsky.social
Also, this is basically useless as a game report.

The Whitecaps went top in the Western Conference with this win. Seems important. A summary of game events without any thematic coherence doesn't give the reader a frame of reference. All the important stuff is either buried or absent (not clicking)

As someone whose time freelancing for MLSsoccer was a vital step in my career progression, and someone who generally gleans insight from the observations of others:

This sucks so hard.
MLS is using generative AI to write match recaps. Writers used to get paid freelance rates to do that. Hssssss.

I'm guessing Quintana starts Game 1 for Milwaukee.

Definitely got a text from a buddy in a Portland sports bar with some family and friends watching the Tigers game on Friday night. So, I guess there's at least one commercial establishment still operational.

In the last week, Donald Trump has insisted that there are no more stores left in war-ravaged Portland, asserted that Joe Biden was president during the January 6th insurrection, hosted conspiracy theorists for an "Antifa" summit, and said he'd consider pardoning his good friend the sex trafficker.

Brewers should put Woodruff on the NLCS roster so he can hit against Kershaw again.
michaelmirer.bsky.social
The Brewers supposedly don't hit home runs. But, um, tonight.
