Iran is now the 8th Muslim-majority country the United States has bombed and or invaded in the last fifteen years. So, from Obama, to Trump, to Biden, to Trump again. Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen, and now Iran.

Trump inflicts upon Americans the exact same type of rule that those up in arms about it are happy to support when it's imposed by their 'liberal' presidents on the people of the third world. You were at brunch while masked men backed by Obama and Biden were doing this to people you think subhuman.

Do you know what chemical contaminants can be found in the most heavily bombed place in human history? Me neither. I don't think anyone fully knows because nothing has ever been done like this before. It is unprecedented environmental catastrophe.

The homes Israeli hostages return to VS the homes Gazans return to

The is no going back to “normal” for them. They are now living in a rubble ridden hellscape while the western world moves on, pretending it didn’t fund and approve this.
On the left is a street in Tel Aviv, Israel. Pictured is beautiful green lush Mediterranean style cityscape.

On the right is an image of a young Palestinian girl walking the “streets” of Gaza City, now turned to rubble and ash. The buildings are demolished by bombs and war crimes while the streets are littered with debris, rubble, and broken concrete.

Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.
mondoweiss.net
NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

So, the idea that we must treat Gaza as “just a legal term the courts will decide” is wrong. International law requires action when there is a serious risk, and the ICJ’s emergency orders and UN findings already reflect that threshold. Zionist bux will have you saying all manner of stupid shit.
melangell.bsky.social
The ICJ found the rights invoked under the Convention to be plausible and ordered provisional measures, including ordering Israel to prevent and punish direct and public incitement and to enable aid. Those are orders precisely because the court doesn’t wait for a years-long merits judgment to act.

One reason I find the “let the courts decide” line when it comes to calling what’s happening in Gaza “genocide" so stupid is that it’s not even a purely legal argument in itself. The law is ALSO preventative. The Genocide Convention defines genocide and also creates a duty on states to prevent it.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has condemned President Trump for accepting false claims that Iran was close to developing nuclear weapons, what he called “a big lie” fed to Trump — that Iran’s peaceful nuclear program was nearing weaponization. Araghchi said there is “zero proof of that, as confirmed by Trump’s own intelligence community.”

He accused Trump of betraying his own campaign promise “to stop Israel’s serial deception of U.S. Presidents” and of letting “warmongers who derailed American diplomacy with Iran for years” dictate his policy.

“The real bully of the Middle East,” Araghchi said, “is the same parasitic actor that has long been bullying and milking the United States.”

He also questioned how Iran could trust an American “olive branch” from “the very same hand that bombed homes and offices across Iran only four months ago,” killing over a thousand civilians. “Mr. Trump can either be a President of Peace or a President of War,” he said. “He cannot be both at the same time.” Araghchi added that Iran remains open to “respectful and mutually beneficial diplomatic engagement,” but warned that “the miserable warmonger in Tel Aviv has already learned how we respond to injustice.”

Araghchi concluded, saying Iran agrees with Trump “on one point — that Iran should not be used as a pretext for normalization with Israel,” adding that “if someone wants to throw the Palestinians under the bus while embracing a genocidal entity that thirsts to devour the whole region, they should have the guts to take full responsibility for it in front of their people and not blame others.”

Every time I read the phrase “Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee” I feel like I have to lie down

Haha, thank you but I’ve got a pretty narrow window of things I’d actually call myself knowledgeable about. As for fiction, I'm pretty sure the last fictional thing I read was The Vampire Chronicles in high school. It's just very hard for me to get through fiction. I'm trying to read more.

Just wanted to share this video of Saleh before the genocide. 🤍

Not brave enough to read that but lmk.

Mamdani is only this close to being mayor because he spoke unapologetically about Palestine, especially when he defended people who said “globalize the intifada.” He’s becoming palatable at the exact moment he doesn’t need to be. We've seen this movie before.

The world was invited to applaud the supposed end of a genocide that those in power now insist never occurred. This moral abyss is what we call a "peace summit."

We all witnessed it and we'll never forget.

Israeli settlers continue to wage war on Palestinians in the West Bank and elsewhere. They are breaking into people's homes, stealing their stuff, trashing their homes and sometimes kidnapping and killing people. This is happening NOW. People should know this.

I think that view’s reductive and wrong, but he said the same about every civilization, including the West. It was part of his cyclical theory of history, not a racial hierarchy.
melangell.bsky.social
Not so much. He actually criticized Hitler and the Nazi racial ideology. He found their biological racism primitive. As for anti-Arab, I think that’s a misunderstanding. He saw Islamic civ as part of what he called the “Magian” world, a great culture that had already completed its creative phase.
melangell.bsky.social
Oh? OK, let me know!
melangell.bsky.social
Not quite correct on either count, but anyway, the point wasn't to do a deep dive on Spengler, just thought his view on Western "winter" was funny/prescient.
melangell.bsky.social
Yeah, he's obviously very fatalistic. As someone who believes in progress, justice, collective action, etc. it made me instinctively recoil at times.
melangell.bsky.social
I think it was Oswald Spengler who said the West wouldn’t fall to invasion, but to self-exhaustion or when its boundless drive for expansion and control eats away at its own spiritual vitality.

Unbelievable, isn't it, how the world has changed? Eighty years it took for the American empire to crumble into a bankrupt economy with shit infrastructure, poverty everywhere and fascists roaming the streets while another country sets the political agenda. Truly surreal.

I’m actually speechless! Esp bringing on an LGBTQ influencer after the fact who—of course—won’t question it…
