As we go into the next four years and beyond, everyone should remember the following sentence and keep it deep in their hearts:

Soldiers win battles; logistics win wars.
I don't think the constitution needs to die or even needs to be amended for those reforms, but the norms around both religion and guns (particularly regarding children) isn't there yet.

Change those norms (and a number of judicial appointments) and those reforms become very possible.

Since I had made several tiefling sketches, I decided to finish a few of them for some extra adoptions, but with slightly simpler coloring than the others.

Help her find a home! 😉

Every country on earth has to face the challenge of organized crime and its influence on politics. It's foolish to think otherwise.

“the compulsory submission of the enemy to our will is the ultimate object. In order to attain this object fully, the enemy must be disarmed; and this is, correctly speaking, the real aim of hostilities in theory”
it's a Mexican standoff scenario where the moderates want us to throw down our guns in order to get some goodwill from the other side, when the other side have made it completely clear they would just execute us if we did that
part of the problem with the entire contours of 'dems need to moderate on [immigration/trans rights/healthcare]' meta-commentary is that dems need a negotiating partner to compromise with. the liberal coalition alone cannot bind this country together.

The people demand soap operas. The Iliad? Soap opera. Romance of the Three Kingdoms? Soap opera. Comics? Soap operas. Pro wrestling? Soap operas. CRPGs? Soap operas. Longing for soap operas is part of the universal human experience.
It's cool how we keep proving over and over and over again that there's a significant market for narrative-heavy, character-driven, single-player experiences in video games and publishers just categorically refuse to believe us

Which is it? End the filibuster and be legends, or only democrats can end the shutdown?
Trump confirms he is weaponizing hunger
At best, what we can do now is try to build a culture of gun safety and responsibility, with red flag laws, uniform training requirements, and strict liability laws.

We've all but lost the battle for guns in the street, but we can at least try to fix the culture that gets the bullets flying.
As I've said elsewhere, I've largely given up on all but the most basic and minor gun control efforts as it's really clear a threshold number of voters aren't just not voting on it, but actively voting against anyone proposing even basic restrictions.

Quite the news dump on Election Day in Virginia…
Breaking news: The Trump administration is sending messages to federal staff suggesting only those who are working during the government shutdown will be paid when it ends, despite a 2019 law that guarantees pay to furloughed employees, too.
Administration hints furloughed workers may not be paid after shutdown
Agencies are sending messages indicating that workers who are on the job will be paid when the government reopens — with no mention of those on furlough, despite a 2019 law protecting their wages.

ATTENTION: weirdos hopping on this Post to scream DO SOMETHING or complain about 8 Democrats:
1) You are falling for ops
2) They could do this without 8 Democrats (revising Senate rules of order requires simple majority)
3) Enjoy the block.

If you canceled Disney+ because of Kimmel or boycotted Target or whatever, also please vote in your local elections, where you can make direct, clear change in your community.
PLEASE vote in local elections–mayors (of small towns, even), board members, etc. They have a direct effect on your life AND are currently the last line of defense against destructive federal policies. In many places so few people vote for city council etc. that your 1 vote can change the result

We saw this same issue — voting day bomb threats — in 2024. Motive could be strategic voter suppression, but in 2024 it was likely foreign interference designed to cause mayhem and further erode trust in US election. These tactics can also provide pretext for contesting elections later.

I'm not a proper D&D hater because I prefer to analyse the game's dysfunctional culture of play as a product of economic incentives rather than a product of the text. A TRUE hater must be prepared to blame anything and everything on the text of the rules, up to and including their parents' divorce.

the extent to which people have utterly forgotten that 9/11 was a real thing that actually happened is a testament to both how fucked human memory is and also how much the Bush administration squandered its mission to protect the country
I don't want to call this person out because they're not entirely wrong, but I think what this misses was that right after 9/11 the political culture were in fact scared shitless that 9/11 was going to happen again and again. It wasn't about civility that made people support WOT, it was fear.

I remained shockingly angry about it and am using that anger to make it to the other side.
Mine isn't the worst, but for about 3 months in 2020, I thought I was an asymptomatic carrier really enough in the pandemic to be responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands (I had mono). Also got way closer to offing myself that year.

So, not as bad, but I'm working from a weird spot.

I am angry about it every damn day.

There are former friends who refused to vote to prevent it who, if I saw them today, I would spit on.
I think a lot of people, myself included, have been suffering a nervous breakdown in some form or another ever since MVP lost last year. We honestly didn’t expect to be going through the same hell that we went through between 2017 and 2021. Now it’s exponentially worse.
This country is suffering a massive nervous breakdown. We need to hand out Thorazine like Pez.
