The people currently in govt want to companies to be able to assign value to you based on this kind of surveillance data to automatically allow or deny certain things: an algorithmic value status that instead of ad targeting it decides like if you’re worth sending an ambulance.
I wonder: over time what is the effect of the machine inaccurately reporting to you your daily activities?

You can’t put something out with a “here, see what you can do with this” and then say “it’s not for that”
Sora 2 is not being “misused” when people use it to produce racist, transphobic, misogynistic, & otherwise vile images—it exists to make it easier to put these images out into the world. Calling it a “misuse” is a grave misunderstanding of what these companies are up to, & lets OpenAI off the hook.

Last year, @alexfanta.bsky.social and I started collecting data on a decade of meetings between Google and the European Commission. Today, Alex shows how Google influenced people in Brussels to dominate the scene.
Google, the world’s largest search engine operating three in four smartphones, has played Brussels like a fiddle – shaping laws, silencing rivals, and calling it "innovation". The chart shows how Big Tech bankrolls Brussels’ top think tanks.

Also, we ALREADY KNOW what they think. Do you think I've avoided Samuel Alito's views on my civil rights, or JK Rowlings opinions about my trans family members or Steven Miller's insane mania about immigration? Because I can assure you I know EXACTLY how they feel on these issues.

Leave me be.
It’s weird to assume that certain people *need* exposure to people who disagree with them, as if I could go a day in my life w/o encountering that shit and that my actual survival doesn’t depend on knowing what assholes think.

this is all so stupid, wasteful and, quite frankly, misleading to investors. A $38bn deal huh? How’s OpenAI paying that? How much counterparty due diligence was done on these deals?
*AMAZON JUMPS 6.1% ON DEAL TO SUPPLY OPENAI WITH NVIDIA CHIPS
Yes, but that could be considered exceeding self-defence, and make *you* the perpetrator. That class focused a lot on the “don’t let the cops turn it on you” aspect, which was funny bc it was taught by ex-cops
I had a self-defence class once (Poland) and they told us we can’t carry and use anything that is *only* a weapon, bc that can imply premeditation. Instead they told us that aerosolised deodorant/hair spray works better and has no such issues if your attacker sues you

AI "is a thieving, hallucinating, biased, data-scraping, ecо-destroying, surveillance bot that will never be able to reconcile the receipts of its unethical origins."

a huge part of the gen ai project is to create the mythic past that is central to the fascist narrative: the non-existent golden age that needs to be restored and the supposed fallen present that must be overturned. if these things are lies then reality itself must be altered to make them true
Again, this precise use case is why these systems exist-to proliferate people’s racist (transphobic, misogynistic…) imaginary at scale. This should not be seen as a “misuse” but rather the product being used exactly as intended.

Great piece from Shannon, who has come to the very sensible conclusion that the very male-dominated discourse around AGI is basically conspiracy theories.

So close to calling it a disease at this point.

that tech journalists or anyone else should just mock about. It is ridiculously strange and bad made,ok. We got that. But imho it is designed with an evil intention that is so obvious it must be fought against with much force.

the algorithmic logic of monopoly tech hegemony in resources to acces knowledge play out. In another dystopian near-future, your AI driven browser and search engines of all flavours will spew out contents of this fascist pedia as if it was true. It shapes knowledge, it shapes reality. It is nothing

Lots of phone scams use AI to spoof real people to steal money. It's crazy that we've reached a point where this is needed, but having a pre-agreed codeword with your family and friends that you can share in an emergency can be *critical* in determining if a suspicious call is in fact a real person.

This is why I don’t trust these companies when they sell tech to education - because this is who they are: criminals who don’t care about digital rights or humans at all.

Stop letting them into schools, whoever they are. They lie and can afford the fines. Nothing but jail will make them do better

I want to be generous and say this is difficult: it isn’t! NVIDIA hasn’t sent any money to OpenAI yet. Oracle doesn’t have the capacity and won’t for years. OpenAI doesn’t have the money even if NVIDIA did send it to them. There is nuance but it’s not particularly sophisticated
