And I suspect she is one of the key people who gave an incredibly bum-steer to people like Pogrund and possibly Badenoch - not that’s it’s hard to get a flake to be flakey. Alicia Kearns employed someone who violated her trust for years. She wants them prosecuted. It’s natural. The case was a bit short from the start because Tory gov’ts failed to update the law. This does not add up to some massive conspiracy just because she feels personally angry and embarrassed.

Except ofc Pogrund. DPP explained to C’tee tonight what happened. They asked DNSA to go further than confines of Tory view of China at relevant time. He refused. They asked him again. He emphasised it’s still no. Gabriel added 2+2 and got 12 - and instead of apologising now insists his sums add up.

The simple fact is that the Government is going to have to find a way of rebuilding local government finances systematically. The decay of public realm and social infrastructure is deeply corrosive of public trust. Everyday, people can see the state not working all around them.
