It suggests a certain fragility (or at least their perception of one) to their coalition, like they don’t dare let their people to have any curiosity about why we feel the way we do.

It’s a real gift, in this day and age of streaming glut with gobs of barely-started shows glutting people’s queues, to write effective potato chip television that keeps people munching to the bottom of the bag. My relatives finished off a whole season yesterday.

Some relatives staying with us this weekend were watching YOUNGER on our Netflix, and I had no idea that ran for 7 seasons! I watched a couple eps with them and though I found the writing deeply poor, it was a struggle to leave the room and go do work. That Darren Star fella sure knows his stuff.

The fixation on “paid protestors” as a right-wing talking point is fascinating to me. No one I know of, from resistance lib to full communist, pretends there aren’t a large number of Americans with sincere right-wing views, but the MAGA line seems to depend on casting doubt on the opposite.

Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

One reason the recent South Korea coup attempt failed is most soldiers were unwilling to push around, let alone shoot, protestors and legislators who look like their moms and grandmas.
The point of protest should be to change conditions for the better, not for individuals to prove radical bonafides.

protests against this government should include white Boomer grandmothers who meet for pilates class, get a pitcher of mimosas & walk together to the public space

we need people in the street who think everyone can talk their way out of a speeding ticket, they're key to winning

THE FOG is probably my least favorite of Carpenter’s golden run (the ghost pirates just never cohere as a menace on the level of Michael Myers or The Thing), but it’s unparalleled in terms of hanging out with your old buddies: Barbeau, Atkins, Nancy Loomis, Charles Cyphers - all the old gang.

oh HEY, I've never seen this e-book discounted before! My first published book! A novelization of the multimillion-downloaded doomed-romance-scifi-noir-heist audiodrama (a true classic of the DooRoSciNoist genre) by brilliant audioscribe, @macrogers.bsky.social.

Incredibly tough call, too many contenders, but I think my favorite Diane Keaton moment is the “What as?” scene with Beatty in REDS.

Another year of watching the Nobel Prize In Scripted Audio Drama Fiction Podcasts go to a FRAUDULENT HACK

Like they made an actual *movie* out of it. I almost hate that there’s pre-planned sequels because you really do reach the end of the main character’s arc - and how it intersects with the larger themes - in a beautifully complete way (before the ending stinger at any rate).

I saw 28 YEARS LATER a couple weeks ago and liked it fine on first viewing, but have subsequently started liking it better every time I think back on it.

Hahahaha when a man emerges like Michael Myers from the negative space behind Janet Leigh but it’s just boozy Father Hal Holbrook

As much of a murderer’s row of old favorites as THE FOG has, I save my biggest fond smile for Nancy Loomis.

lol I posted this completely in earnest before I saw that this had become the meme of the evening.

What did they arrest her for? It’s not a crime to be the girlfriend of one of the founders of antifa - it’s not even a crime to be one of the founders of antifa!

A really old trick conservatives use is to accuse liberals of supporting an idea that would make sense under liberal values but that liberals don't actually support for tactical reasons. So you face a choice of either accepting the false accusation or you argue against your own values.

Saw a CBS ghoul trying to hound Hakeem fucking Jeffries about whether “illegal aliens get the ACA subsidies” by reasking the question multiple times after Jeffries said it wasn’t true. You’d think he was interviewing a Nixon staffer about watergate.

@macrogers.bsky.social, writer of Give Me Away and much, much more, is an expert on characters who have two people living inside of them. So his praise of TWO THOUSAND AND LATE means a great deal!
A stylized graphic with a burning megaphone that says: As a longtime aficionado of the Inner Voice subgenre of audio drama, I was delighted to hear that one of the leading artists of our field was taking it on - and Lauren Shippen crushes it as expected. Two Thousand And Late is Malevolent-meets-His-Girl-Friday, a breathless comedy about surviving late-late-late capitalism with a lot of laughs and some serious bite when you least expect it. (Didn't notice that Clegg story is 4 months old before QTing, but I suspect the sentiment is ongoing.)
