Sweet Home (1989) was a horror-themed RPG by Capcom released only in Japan for the Nintendo Famicom. Five investigators descend on a famous, and deceased, artist's abandoned mansion seeking his lost works and answers to what happened to those that went before them. (a spooky thread)
An undead warning from a crawly corpse provides hints on what you might need. The game used elements of adventure games and RPG to create a hybrid experience filled with puzzle solving, exploration, and adventure. Options such as checking your party status, talking, looking around as a search function, and the save function could be brought up while poking around the mysterious mansion. A screenshot showing the turn-based combat in the game with character actions shown in a window on the lower left, individual party status on the lower right, and the enemy above. As you start your quest, an angry spirit warns the investigators what the consequences will be if they continue their foolish trek.

Good morning!

I love music. I love books. I love art. I love movies and TV shows. I love all the things that people make and share with the world. As an introvert I really enjoy my solitude, but I also understand that life would be a big nothing if not for the efforts of others.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Hand-drawn ink illustration, in queasy green and purplish color. Showing a mass of flesh rising up to a starlit night sky. A face with hollowed out black eyes and protruding spiky melty flesh, with double rows of teeth in it's gaping open mouth. Behind it a human face smothered in tendrils swallowing a thick mass of bulbous flesh.
