Something I do know about people because I am a person is that we contain multitudes and we care about all manner of things.

Also the people who make such statements publicly don't actually know what anyone cares about. They only know what they care about and are projecting onto others.

The who cares crowd is, in my deepest suspicion, a very loud, very white, very cis het male, very disposable income having, minority of assholes holding the rest of us hostage. I mean the Republican party only continues to even exist bc of some outdated laws about Senators and the Electoral College.

"Look at what he's spending money on instead of feeding kids" are two pretty easy dots to connect, feels like the Who Cares crowd is being deliberately obtuse here

"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

The problem with even well informed people mostly just getting learning about from two weeks in AP US History is that they think it took two weeks and everyone did everything according to the script.

Also, it is so significantly underplayed how the U.S. and state governments literally waged war against civil rights movements. David Dennis’ book: The Movement Made Us illuminated that for me and it really brought the CRM into a hyper focus for me in a way my previous learnings hadn’t yet.

You can’t create or divine a system that accounts for the way people can be messy. It’s just not something you can account for.

And that’s because, and this is important, life is messy.

Here’s the thing about the Civil Rights Movement people don’t realize, shit was messy.

People with very different theories of change and history and organization, overlapping generations, multiple groups pursuing contrary goals, and a lot of complicated personalities who just did not agree. All chasing moving political targets during times of social, media, and demographic upheaval
