Someone should make a government where policy isn’t made by one person having a tantrum.
Like the power to do things should be…separate 🧐
Trump is pissed about an ad that Canada recently ran in the U.S. showing Ronald Reagan talking about tariffs in 1987.

“Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”

For all those "it doesn't matter" and "conservative media dominates everything" folks....well, *something* is getting through to 60+% of the US. (And yes, it's really hard to get to the ~20-35% who are hard partisans).
16% of Americans say Donald Trump has definitely set a high moral standard for the presidency.

basically all this shit is Roberts' fault, because the immunity made Trump feel like he could break the law as much as he wants without consequences. bsky.app/profile/jayw...
Here's a fun little nugget from Trump's demand that DOJ pay him, personally, $250 million: In his memo, he argues that prosecutors "should have foreseen" that he has "immunity from prosecution for officials acts." Thank you John Roberts, great rule of law-ing, sir! static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

Something I do know about people because I am a person is that we contain multitudes and we care about all manner of things.

Also the people who make such statements publicly don't actually know what anyone cares about. They only know what they care about and are projecting onto others.
"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

The who cares crowd is, in my deepest suspicion, a very loud, very white, very cis het male, very disposable income having, minority of assholes holding the rest of us hostage. I mean the Republican party only continues to even exist bc of some outdated laws about Senators and the Electoral College.

"Look at what he's spending money on instead of feeding kids" are two pretty easy dots to connect, feels like the Who Cares crowd is being deliberately obtuse here

We have to sit with the reality that some images are more legible to some people than others. I think that Raymond Williams's concept of the "structure of feeling" is instructive for the moment we are in.

if disney does a theatrical release of the original star wars films for the 50th anniversary and offers them on physical media i will forgive them for every terrible decision they've made with star wars
just discovered that there was a leak from someone involved in the restoration team revealing that Disney is, indeed, restoring the theatrical cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy! complete with screenshots!

The problem with even well informed people mostly just getting learning about from two weeks in AP US History is that they think it took two weeks and everyone did everything according to the script.

I tell anyone that wants to understand the racial caste system in this country to study the Black Panther Party. To understand that is to understand the methods used by the U.S. gvmt to wage war against Black people. The only groups who know what that’s like are Indigenous and African Americans

Also, it is so significantly underplayed how the U.S. and state governments literally waged war against civil rights movements. David Dennis’ book: The Movement Made Us illuminated that for me and it really brought the CRM into a hyper focus for me in a way my previous learnings hadn’t yet.

You can’t create or divine a system that accounts for the way people can be messy. It’s just not something you can account for.

And that’s because, and this is important, life is messy.

People with very different theories of change and history and organization, overlapping generations, multiple groups pursuing contrary goals, and a lot of complicated personalities who just did not agree. All chasing moving political targets during times of social, media, and demographic upheaval
Here’s the thing about the Civil Rights Movement people don’t realize, shit was messy.

Mad king. He doesn’t even have the constitutional power to impose tariffs but rather than point that out and stand up for Constitution our elites are crawling around on the floor in front of him, begging for favors and scraps.
