The German company that makes the mechanical ladder used in the Louvre heist has used the image to advertise, with the text 'When you need to move fast'

Plenty of mistakes but joe biden not letting Silicon Valley Bank depositors eat it was a huge "all you had to do was nothing" mistake

Look how grateful all those rich tech guys are. So predictable

If you’re wondering why ICE Agents, even behind their masks, seem like a bunch of pathetic losers, it’s because that’s exactly the kinds of people who join secret police forces: people who are such failures that a repugnant job is the best they can get. Data: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

In a weird way, you've got to take your hat off to Jeffrey Epstein for successfully running a sex trafficking ring without a single one of his rich friends finding out about it.

Gotta love an art thief. In order to do it, you have to be a cold-blooded analytical criminal mastermind. But in order to /want/ to do it, you gotta be downright whimsical. rare combo

"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

Scott: Her whole race is about policing bathrooms. They’re the pee-and-poop caucus. That’s all they do—they police where kids are going to the bathroom. They’re not worried about where kids are learning or what they’re getting out of school.

You're writing this down right? Good. As I was saying my car sucked so bad my wife left me. Yes I can spell my name for you.

this rings true to me. for one thing, I think that the causes of what's happening now are much less prominent & much more multifactorial than during the 2008-09 crisis, but also, it feels like Gen Z is mostly choosing to wade around in really, really low quality information environments.
The takeaway for me: Gen Z feels like Millennials circa 2008–2012, same financial stress, different backdrop.

Key difference is Millennials knew why things were tough; Gen Z doesn’t, and that uncertainty is clearly showing up here.
more Roberts hand-waving on it's way, no doubt
All of this, in violation of the Constitution.
Trump and Vought are now breaking both sides of spending law. They’re illegally not spending where the law requires them to spend, and they’re illegally spending where they don’t have the money to spend.

What we have is an appropriations king.

Spending “deals” are meaningless under that setup.
yes and very few "measurable quantities" actually measure what they purport to. Mass and Temperature being two of the few exceptions. KPIs are entirely invented
nothing is stronger than the complacency of the PMCs
While I admire your optimism, I do not share it. The people spoke in 2020 - we rescued democracy and the administration did nothing to protect it.

Sometime back I made the mistake of questioning the S. Fla Cuban supporting Trump. The oversimplified explanation I got is that they're bougie. Their ancestors could afford to flee and they are generationally traumatized of left leaning ideology by their formerly ruling class families.
so clearly un-presidential (the Post planning ahead)

He's never been a 'thinker' in any way. He's always been an apologist for the status quo.
Douthat has truly lost his mind. Not just in the religious nutjob way. Along every axis of thought.

There is not a sane case to be made that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have accomplished anything of use to anyone except themselves and Trump. And Putin. And a few other dictators.

My takeaways from Thiel's Secret Antichrist Lectures (embargo lifted):

1. Tech is building the "machinery" of the Antichrist. D'oh!

2. The Antichrist is defined by "velocity" ("acceleration," eh?)

3. The Antichrist will be Gen Z (weird numerology stuff about the number 33)
News: I have obtained full transcripts of Peter Thiel's Secret Antichrist Lectures (as have multiple other journalists).

They were supposed to be embargoed until 9 a.m. tomorrow, but Reuters has a story up. (They may have gotten them from a different source)

very few left, and none at all in corporate media
Please try to differentiate between the idiot talking heads, offering commentary on TV and actual journalists, who are not only covering the system we have and exposing its horrors, but being shot with rubber bullets and chemical weapons for doing it.

Mainstream "libertarians" haven't been *actual* libertarians (classical liberals) in roughly 15 years.
