Seeking to bolster its ability to power bases, the Army plans to place commercial nuclear microreactors on some of its posts in the coming years under a private-public partnership it has dubbed the Janus Program, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll announced Tuesday.

The program seeks to bolster the Army’s ability to power its bases as the service anticipates expending drastically more energy in the coming years.

Yes, this was a real post. No, it’s not a typo. It’s white nationalist language from a government account.

On Friday I’m going to have a premium newsletter with a generous (2600 word) free intro about the nasty demands of Sam Altman and OpenAI. They need $161 billion in the next six months - it’s the only way for them to complete any of the plans they have agreed to. A truly nonsensical time.

Nothing about Unite the Right was funny, but I did just remember a light moment.

At the end of the day, I was walking by some officers, and one was absolutely covered in a comical number of … Tear gas? Smoke? … canisters. Like, head to toe.

All I could think was, that guy trips and we’re all done.

I sure as hell would rather my taxes go to children with disabilities getting a fair chance at an education, than some tacky gold gilded billionaire fantasy ballroom at the WH, that us taxpayers will never get to use, nor did we get to vote on.

Yes your taxes should support disabled people.

They should support homeless people.

They should support those living in poverty, children and the elderly.

This is literally the purpose of taxes, and I would far rather support those who need it than continue to enrich the elite.

Q: Politico reported on a group chat of young Republicans. Does this just reflect some bad apples?

HOCHUL: Some bad apples? These are the future of the GOP. This is so vile it's hard to find the words to put into context ... there's gotta be consequences ... this bullshit has to stop.

Heard about this earlier, and my jaw didn’t drop. You know who else isn’t surprised? Pretty much every Republican.

As someone who’s been a frequent target, none of this shocks me. I don’t expect real consequences from the right because I doubt today is the first day they heard about it.

Remember when you tried to tell us “the younger generations don’t think that way.” And “the young people will save us.” There are a lot of great, humane, decent, bright young people out there. But there are also a lot of these young people. And they’re not going anywhere.

Which chapter of Trump’s authoritarian playbook is this?
• Undermine Congress’s constitutional power of the purse
• Invite troops to shift loyalty from the state to a private benefactor
• Normalize oligarch rule over democratic government
• Blame Democrats to justify an authoritarian “rescue”

Trump: "I had a very wealthy person who called -- a donor, a great gentleman -- and he said, 'if there's any money necessary, shortfall, for the paying of the troops, then I will pay it.' Meaning he will pay it. How about that?"

In an interview with @semafor.com, Janet Mills doesn't outright say she'd side with #MESen Angus King and vote for the GOP's funding bill, but she comes close.

(The only other Dem senators who've done so are John Fetterman and Catherine Cortez Masto)

www.semafor.com/article/10/1...
In her interview with Semafor, the governor criticized the dysfunction that led to the shutdown and the lack of a plan to revive expiring health care tax credits. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, and Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine, are among the few Democratic caucus members who have joined Republicans in voting for the House’s stopgap funding bill.

Mills did not say directly whether she would join them.

She replied that “it isn’t rocket science to be able to do at least a continuing resolution and preserve health care, preserve the tax credits on which thousands of Maine people rely for their health insurance. I think they can do both.”

“I would vote for continuing health care. I would vote to extend the tax credits, whether it’s a separate bill or part of the current negotiations to extend the continuing resolution. But I think it’s strangely dysfunctional that Congress and the White House can’t get this done,” Mills added.
