I like how the ending of Metal Slug 3 has the characters tossing their handguns into the water...and the sinking firearm in the credits changes depending on who throws it away.

In the Metal Slug series, did you know that the male and female characters use different handguns?

Marco and Tarma use the Murder-50AE whilst Eri and Fio use the 1915 Revolver because of its slender design. From an SNK Supporters Club newsletter I posted on the other site years ago
the Murder-50AE men's gun The 1915 Revolver ladies gun, with slender design double page spread showing various Metal Slug equipment A screenshot of Metal Slug 3 which shows, in a shock to nobody who has read my post, male & female characters holding different handguns in the game. There is also a fish on the beach. It has no gun, possibly due to a lack of arms & hands

I got a bad case of fungal jungle xabungle!

This quote reads like a desperate attempt to say something interesting about Xabungle.

I guess "It's the biggest 1980s mecha anime where the hero looks like a hobbit" was too long.

Just as long as I don't botch the Boobeam fight and end up grinding for weapon meter refills.

I love seeing Fish Police stuff, because it's my favorite early Simpsons imitator. It's such an odd misfire: based on a comic it barely resembles, celebrity voices, routine Saturday-morning style awkwardly mixed with adult humor, a brief merchandising push, and canceled after three episodes.

Admirably big Satomi no Nazo energy, which is an infamous early PS1 kusoge RPG whose developer had the idea to put similar stickers saying "recommended RPG" on the cases by hand after manufacturing, tricking players into thinking the stores had placed them, a stunt Sony was none too pleased with.

The cutscenes from the Ghost in the Shell Playstation game were extra cool for how closely they stuck to the look of Shirow's original manga, compared to the movies and anime series. This might be the youngest Aramaki ever looked!

And next year's new GitS series apparently goes for the same style.

A peek at GAME FREAK (Yep, *that* Game Freak!) tips 'zine issue 22 from 1985 where the solution to arcade Time Gal is lovingly and painstakingly illustrated and written out scene-by scene. 💜
A scan of the photocopied zine with an illustration of protag Reikas sat coly with legs crossed and a marker pen held in one hand, with cheeky doodles drawn over the game's villain's face and a piece of paper. "Time Stop!" A snap of one of the pages, with painstakingly drawn recreations of hte various scenes of the QTE based animated footage gameplay with directional inputs for each of them. Another snap of inked illustrations of Reika in one scene and line artworks in the other. Directional inputs can be seen below. Time Gal! A sweet sketch headshot of Reika along with zine credits, date, and price (Y300)

So this guy was pretty much wrong about everything.
Argath aka Algus yells "Animals have no God!!" like a jerk. The original translation of Final Fantasy Tactics is notoriously rough, but I always liked how blunt this line was.

Simone is really cool but I always got the impression that Capcom came up with her just because Cannon Spike couldn't use Linn Kurosawa from Alien vs. Predator.

Some inappropriately creepy golf content - Sente Mini Golf (1986) has DIP switches that add photos of missing children to the attract mode (and to enable a "LOCATED" message per kid). These profiles were replaced with new ones in updated ROMs.

Modern operators seem to leave them on, a lot. 😨
A Reddit post from r/creepygaming by user SuperCamouflageShark - I saw these missing child reports on the attract mode of a Sente Mini-Golf arcade machine recently.

The photo is of a Sente Mini Golf machine, displaying black-and-white photographs of missing children: Tahj Allen Merriman, and Steven Phillip Curtis. Their profiles are filled out in red text. Another photograph of a different Sente Mini Golf machine, displaying the same photos of missing children. Sente Mini Golf running under MAME, with the DIP Switches menu showing. DIP switches 3, 4, and 5 configure whether the missing children are displayed in the attract mode, with switches 4 and 5 showing or hiding a "LOCATED" stamp over the respective kid's photo. Screenshot of Sente Mini Golf running under MAME; this screen shows two different missing children: Malinda Marie Smith and April Rose Yates. For the sake of demonstration I have enabled the "LOCATED" flag on the kid on the right. (DISCLAIMER: I do not have any information on whether April was located or not. This is strictly a demonstration and is not intended as documentation of a real event.)

I wonder if any of Taito's Time Gal advertisements still exist. She was pretty big for a few years.

I am looking at noodle stopper toys on Suruga-ya despite the tariffs killing any desire to buy stuff there, and I can do without them casting aspersions like this.

I wrote a long article about Rieko Kodama, her career at Sega, the evolution of her company, the games she worked on (including some canceled games and/or games for which she is not credited), the status of women and working conditions in the video game industry, etc.

Illustration: a portrait of Rieko Kodama with some of the games she has worked on. The dominant colors are yellow, purple and red. Counterclockwise from top left: Rieko Kodama, Alis and Lutz from Phantasy Star, Sonic in a maze, Alex Kidd and his motorbike next to Flicky on a waterfront pier, Joe Musashi and his dog near the Statue of Liberty facing a skyline, the three playable characters from Golden Axe seen from behind on the edge of a cliff, and one of the flying ships from Skies of Arcadia.

Established in July 1993 by a few former Tecno Soft employees from Nagasaki, they've developed everything from Hagane (SNES), Bulk Slash (Saturn), DECA Sports (Wii) to assisting with Clubhouse Sports and the Mario Party series.

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

Steeped in darkness.
All hail Ravness.

Yeah, this is one of my all-timers. If you like Final Fantasy Tactics, definitely play Tactics Ogre. And hey, the Steam version is just twenty bucks right now!

Tactics Ogre was first out 30 years ago in Japan (1995) for the #SNES. ⚔️ A masterclass in game story and writing (just look at these quotes!) and multiple endings to determine your fate. This is a time-honored classic, and a must-play for SRPG fans.

Speaking of Urban Vision, does anybody know the story behind the “American Anime” badge on some of their releases? Was it a separate company? Just a label? I can’t find any info on it.
Spine of a vhs tape, showing the urban vision and American anime logos. The American anime logo is a triangle with a little squiggly thing on top.
