SNK funding their games seems to require it to be on Xbox. Some of the good ACA NG games were skipped in the West as they already had shitty ports available via the old PS2 collections & other weirdness like that which I guess SNK didn't want to pay for?

tldr, modern SNK is a mess

The SS version's game engine is quite different & characters gained moves & other tangible stuff like that. It did lose some graphical effects the SS couldn't do & got a remixed, arguably not as good, OST. But on balance it's a much better game to play imo

The Saturn console came out about a week earlier than the PS1 in Japan. This specific game came out later on the Saturn. Same with stuff like Biohazard, Dracula X etc - they all came out way later on Saturn. Donpachi was on Saturn before PS1. Not everything just released on the same day

Halo 1 & Half Life 2 - both on X360 if that matters?

2 of the most ultimate legendary games apparently, and both did have a couple of good moments but generally you went from A to B so you could push a button or open a door. At least Sonic Adventure had charm & variety to it

It's not like he hasn't made some genuinely amazing games but he seems to get held up as some kind of ultimate cinematic genius whose games transcend the boundaries of art & fiction rather than 'guy who watched a bunch of movies in the 80s & then copied them for games'

much of the time you don't really move the ship a great deal other than to avoid crashes with other boats or land, and just use your turrets to take out enemy torpedoes, as they're the main things that will damage you

If you play on a 4-way stick it's pretty good fun. I know mame doesn't emulate the game properly but idk if that affects the controls too? It def felt worse than ACA but I can't really explain why

Still no masterpiece but it's not a disaster imo

yeah, the level of detail in the series, both small & large, is unmatched

If only we had the tech these days to make games look as good as 25yr+ old games running on 30yr old hardware

can't really argue with that. Bit of a shame really seeing as the best ones are all at least a quarter of a century old now & were running on decidedly not state of the art hardware at the time
